Effects of quality of life therapy on the ability to cope with stressful situations, anxiety and irrational fears in electrical networks workers at risk of death(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Objective: The main aim of this research was to investigate the effects of quality of life therapy on increasing the coping ability with stressful situations, reducing anxiety and irrational fears in at risk workers of electricity distribution companies in Isfahan. Method: This research was of semi-experimental with pre-test, post-test and follow-up with the control group. Population were consisted of 250 at risk workers of Isfahan Electricity Distribution Company. Five people were randomly selected from each unit, and a total of 40 people were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in 90 minutes’ sessions of quality of life improvement training for 8 weeks, held at the New Technology Park of Isfahan Electricity Distribution company. Experimental group was compared with a waiting control group. measurement tools were consisted of Endler and Parker Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) and Mental Disorders Symptoms Checklist (SCL-90-R) that were administered on at risk workers in the pre-test, post-test and follow-up phases. Repeated measure analysis of variance was used to analyze the data. Results: Data analysis showed that the intervention sessions had a significant effect on the all scales of coping with stressful situations, anxiety and irrational fears in the experimental group in the post-test and follow-up stages. Conclusion: The results indicate that psychotherapy based on improvement of quality of life was effective on tranquility, mental health and the quality of life of at risk workers in Isfahan electricity distribution company.

Anxiety and Depression among Tertiary Level Students in Bangladesh during COVID-19 Outbreak(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Objective: This study aimed to find out anxiety and depression among tertiary level students in Bangladesh during COVID-19 outbreak. Method: The online survey design was used in this study. To measure anxiety and depression, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scales were used. Binary logistic regression was performed to assess the impact of several factors on the likelihood that respondents would report that they had a problem with anxiety and depression. Results: The strongest predictor of binary logistic regression of reporting anxiety was gender (OR: 2.848; 95% CI; 1.836-4.417; p < .001) indicating female students had about 2.9 times more likely to report anxiety than male students controlling for all other factors. The duration of using social media (OR: 0.567; 95% CI; 0.329-0.978; p < 0.05) was also affecting the level of anxiety of the students. Depression was getting affected by the present living place (OR: 0.507; 95% CI; 0.316-0.814; p=.005). Conclusion: This study showed that students were having different level of anxiety and depression. Gender, the present living place and the duration of using social media were the significant factors for anxiety disorder. Depression was also getting affected by the present living place and the duration of using social media.

objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of group therapy in cognitive-behavioral manner on anxiety, stress and despair of Multiple sclerosis patients in Tehran. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test-post-test with control group. Twenty patients referred to the available medical centers were selected as a sample and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. In this study, Kalmogorov-Smirnov, Levene and Covarians tests were evaluated with Spss software. also, Beck Anxiety Inventory Questionnaire, Cohen's Perceived Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) and Beck's Hopelessness Scale questionnaire were applied to collect data. Results: The results of the present study showed that there is a significant difference between the experimental and control group of anxiety, stress and despair with 95% confidence level. Therefore, all three main hypotheses were confirmed and the null hypothesis was rejected. In reducing anxiety, stress, and despair in MS patients, group therapy is effective in a cognitive-behavioral manner. Conclusion: Cognitive-behavioral group therapy reduced stress, anxiety and despair in patients with MS and improved mental health of these patients. Therefore, this treatment method can be considered a treatment in clinics.

Coronavirus Anxiety: The Predictive Role of Perfectionism and Self-compassion(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Background: The Coronavirus not only affects physical health, but the outbreak of this virus can also have devastating psychological effects. To treat and diagnose, these impacts should be identified. This study aimed to investigate the role of Perfectionism and Self-compassion in predicting Coronavirus anxiety. Method: The sample consisted of 292 participants who responded online to the Coronavirus Anxiety Inventory, the Hewitt and Flett Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (HF-MPS), and Self-Compassion Scale-Short Form (SCS-SF). Data were analyzed by correlation and multiple regression analysis. Results: The results have shown that the dimensions of perfectionism, and Self-compassion, predict Coronavirus anxiety (P <0.001). Also, Mindfulness and Common humanity, from Self-compassion components, could predict Coronavirus anxiety significantly (P <0.001). Conclusion: These findings indicate that Perfectionism is effective in exacerbating Coronavirus anxiety, and Self-compassion is effective in modulating it. These variables can play an important role in general health policies, the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of Coronavirus anxiety.

An Investigation on the Effect of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy on Reduction of Anxiety, Depression, and Distress in People with Anxiety Disorder In the age of Corona(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

This study aimed to investigate the effect of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) on the reduction of anxiety, depression, and distress in people with an anxiety disorder. The present study was applied and quasi-experimental in terms of the method (consisting of pre-test, post-test, and control group). The population of this study consisted of people with anxiety disorder referred to Loghman Hospital in Tehran. 20 people who were selected as participants based on the inclusion criteria, were randomly divided into two groups (i.e. REBT and control groups) equally (10 people in each group). Experimental pretest and posttest were performed using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) and the participants in the experimental group underwent the experiment for three months (a two-hour session per week). The results were analyzed using analysis of covariance. The results showed that REBT intervention was significantly effective in reducing patients' distress, depression, and anxiety. Thus, REBT can be effective in reducing patients’ psychological problems by helping them recognize their irrational beliefs better and reduce their anxiety (self-blame) and hostility (blaming others and the universe).

This paper investigates the most influential factor of anxiety in the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) context through classroom observation and questionnaires in a private vocational higher education in Indonesia. It also explores the differences in the anxiety level based on the year of study. One hundred seventy-one students participated in the study. The Foreign Language Anxiety Classroom Scale (FLACS) questionnaire was adapted to find out the students’ anxiety levels. The questionnaire was administered using Google form, then collected and statistically analyzed using SPSS. It was revealed that the most influential factor of students’ anxiety was the domain of Communication Apprehension. Furthermore, the ANOVA test showed that all students in each year suffered from anxiety. The most notable cause of the Communication Apprehension domain was performing without preparation. Self-negative evaluation was the primary cause of the Fear of Negative Evaluation domain. Meanwhile, for the domain of Test Anxiety, failure in language tests was the principal reason. This study implies that teachers should frame pleasant communication in the classroom as well as create fun and collaborative activities to reduce students’ anxiety.

The Role of Health Hardiness and Anxiety on Immune System and Quality of Life Patients with HIV

The pattern of change in HIV from fatal diseases to chronic diseases due to improvement of treatment made a new challenge for diagnosis and care for the needs of people who live with HIV. This study reviews the role of health hardiness and anxiety on the immune system and quality of life in HIV patients. 125 men with HIV infected through injection participated in this study. They were asked to complete the revised health hardiness inventory, Spielberg state-trait anxiety inventory, and WHOQOL-brief. Data from four times of cd4 experiment with three-month intervals was obtained from the dossier. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson correlation, dependent t-test, multiple regression, and logistic regression. Results of this study show no statistically significant relationship between health hardiness, anxiety, and the immune system. The regression analysis indicates that the total score of quality of life with health hardiness and anxiety was statistically significant (0.0001). Subscales of perceived health (β=0.302), state anxiety (β=-0.305) and trait anxiety (β=-0.449) in equation relative to prediction quality of life were statistically significant (0.0001). Health hardiness and anxiety are not associated with a lowered immune system. The patients with higher anxiety had lower quality of life and those with higher health hardiness had higher quality of life

The Comparison of Attachment Styles, Problem Solving Styles and Sensitivity Anxiety in Cardiovascular Diseases and Normal Individuals

Cardiovascular diseases are regarded as one of the most disabling diseases of human beings around the world, particularly when psychological characteristics are taken into consideration. This study compared attachment styles, problem solving styles and sensitivity anxiety in cardiovascular diseases patients and normal Individuals. A total of 40 participants (20 diseased, 20 normal) were selected thought random cluster sampling procedure from among a population of cardiovascular diseases in the city of Ardabil. Data were collected using the attachment styles inventory (AAI), problem-solving styles questionnaire (PSSQ) and the anxiety sensitivity index (ASI); moreover, multivariate analysis of variance used for data analysis. These finding implied that among attachment styles, problem solving and sensitivity anxiety there existed differences in cardiovascular diseases patients and non-patients. Results showed that cardiovascular diseases patients used higher avoidance and ambivalence attachment than non-patients. Result also revealed that non-patients used higher safety attachment than cardiovascular disease patients and patients employed avoidant attachment style as well as ambivalence. Moreover, cardiovascular diseases patients had higher helplessness, problem solving control and avoidance style more than non-patients and the non-patients used higher creativity style, problem-solving confidence, avoidance style more than cardiovascular diseases patients. It was also found that cardiovascular diseases patients used higher physical, cognitive, social worries than non-patients. Overall, the finding indicated that attachment styles, problem solving styles and sensitivity anxiety were important components discriminating cardiovascular diseases patients from non-patients. The suggestion for further studies is about other variables in cardiovascular diseases to provide preventive strategies for these diseases

Effect of Environmental Psychology on Reducing Stress and Anxiety on the Pediatric Dialysis Patients(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Purpose : The impact of the physical surroundings on the healing process and overall well-being has become particularly important for patients in recent years. This study aimed to identify the effects of environmental psychology on reducing stress and anxiety on the pediatric dialysis. Methodology : This descriptive, analytical study was conducted on 150 hemodialysis patients (50 males and 40 female) using convenience sampling at three hemodialysis centers in Ibn Sina, Saadi and Namazi hospitals. Data collection was performed during three months using questionnaire of DASS-21. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings : Boys accounted for 55.6 percent of pediatric dialysis patients, while girls accounted for 44.4 percent. The sample's youngest participant was 13 years old, while the eldest was 18 years old. According to the results of Table 2, the mean score of the mental state of adolescents hospitalized in three hospitals of Ibn Sina, Namazi and Saadi was M= 42.14. Also, in their opinion, the mean score of medical spaces was M= 73.54. Conclusion : The results of this study showed that the quality of the treatment room is more effective in mitigating tension in dialysis patients aged 13-18 years admitted to the dialysis ward of Ibn Sina Hospital in Shiraz than the other two dilapidated hospitals.

The current study used cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the form of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) intervention on irrational beliefs and anxiety of adolescent girls with social anxiety. A quasi-experimental design was utilized in this study, which involved a control group, a pre-test, and a post-test of samples taken from clinics in Tehran, of which 28 adolescent girls with social anxiety were selected through a purposive sampling method from November to January 2020. There were 14 participants in each of the experimental and control groups. Afterward, they were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and The Attitudes and Belief Scale 2 (ABS-2) were applied as pre-intervention phases. The experimental group (n=14) was treated with rational-emotive behavior therapy, for ten weekly 90 minutes sessions, while the control group (n=14) did not receive any treatment. As part of descriptive statistics, we used indices such as means and standard deviations that assessed central and dispersion. The test for inferential statistics was the repeated measure ANCOVA. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software (version 25). The significance level of the analysis was 0.05. Considering the results, there was a significant difference between the pretest and post-test results for irrational belief (89.44±34.82) and anxiety (81.67±27.09)indicating that the experimental group’s post-test scores were higher relative to their pre-test scores. Moreover, the experimental group’s post-test scores of anxiety decreased from the pre-test (81.67±27.09) to the post-test (52.48±15.54).

Effectiveness of Emotion-focused therapy on Anxiety and Quality of Life in Women With breast cancer(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy on anxiety and quality of life in women with breast cancer. Method: A quasi-experimental design was used to collect pre-test, post-test and follow-up data (three months after) from treatment and control groups. The sample consisted of 30 women with breast cancer in Tehran who had a high score in anxiety after screening. They were selected based on purposive sampling and randomly placed in experimental and control groups of size 15. The experimental group received 12 sessions (50 minutes) of emotion-focused therapy (Greenberg, 2010). The control group did not receive an intervention. Data were collected using Beck Anxiety Inventory and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - Breast Cancer (FACT-B) in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow up, and analyzed using mixed variance analysis. Findings: Results showed significant within and between subject differences (P<0.01) on measures of anxiety and quality of life. Emotion-focused therapy significantly reduced anxiety and increased quality of life in the treatment group relative to the control group. Moreover, post-test and follow-up levels of anxiety and quality of life differed significantly from pre-test levels, but not from each other. Conclusion: Emotion-focused therapy targeting emotional processing and expression improved [d1] regulation of clients' emotions and can be used as an appropriate intervention method to reduce anxiety and increase quality of life in women with breast cancer.

Predicting the Model of Psychological Capital based on Mindfulness with the Intermediary Anxiety in Obese women Candidates for Bariatric Surgery(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Objective: The present study conducted to investigate the role of anxiety mediation in the relationship between psychological capital and mindfulness in obese candidates for bariatric surgery. Methods: The study method was a descriptive correlational research. The statistical population of the research included all women candidates referred to Rasoul Akram Hospital in Tehran in the year 1400 (March 21, 2021 – March 20, 2022) for minimal invasive bariatric surgery. Among them, a number of 250 women were selected as samples through convenience non-random sampling. The research tools were Psychological Capital Questionnaire (Luthans et al. 2007), Freiburg’s Mindfulness Inventory - short form (Wallach et al. 2006) and Beck Anxiety Questionnaire (Beck et al. 1993). Structural equation modeling was used for analyzing the data. The gathered data were analyzed using two statistical analysis software SPSS Version 26 and LISREL Version 8.8. Results:  The results showed that the fit indices are in acceptable level and the suggested model has optimum fit index. Conclusion: Considering the important role of mindfulness and anxiety in predicting the psychological capital, trainings and interventions aiming increase in mindfulness and decrease in anxiety should be included in preoperative plans dedicated for bariatric surgery candidate.

The Effect of Interactive Jigsaw Method on Iranian EFL Learners’ Reading Skill and Anxiety

The present study trailed a proper experimental design to examine jigsaw reading method in our setting. The data collection process encompassed qualitative and quantitative evaluations. The scrutinization aimed to influence the interactive jigsaw method on EFL intermediary Iranian learners’ reading capability and anxiety. 205 Iranian learners acquired the Oxford Placement Test, 135 intermediary learners were selected as the research sample. A random control group (CG) and an experimental group (EG) were designated to the participants. The instrumentation was pre-and post-tests for evaluating the reading performance, and the subjects replied reading anxiety questionnaire, which was validated by Zoghi (2012). The EG outperformed the CG in their reading performance comprehension, which is indicated in the results. Also, EG participants’ reading anxiety reduced after considerable management. The outcomes also did not reveal any significant variance among the two age groups. The findings might accord creative intuitions in jigsaw interactive learning and reading, and the situation could encompass the conclusions of the associated literature. T he research results can be advantageous to instructors by invigorating their learners’ L2 reading ability. Moreover, learners become skilled in regulating their anxiety and acting more assertively amid the tasks. A Qualitative Evaluation of the Impact of Online Visually-Based L2 Acquisition on College Students’ Risk-Taking, Motivation, and Anxiety(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

The paper deals with the topic of visually based L2 acquisition in higher education and evaluates the impact of the use of visual images based on Kolb´s theory of experiential learning. It evaluates its impact on the students´ risk-taking, motivation and anxiety. The research was conducted at the English Department of the University of Diyala, Iraq. The total number of participants was forty (n = 40) and they all were first-year students at English Department. The research was conducted by using guided interviews through the Google Meet platform. The main idea of the research was to evaluate how much will experiential learning, via the reading pictures technique, influence college students’ risk-taking, motivation, and anxiety. The research results show that students’ motivation and risk-taking were affected positively by using pictures. It further shows that the classroom anxiety of the students was less affected than the other two variables

The effects of cognitive and physical training on physiological and psychological levels of anxiety in the female elderly(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Background: Increasing prevalence rate of anxiety disorders in elderly populations especially due to physical limitations has become a key concern for health authorities. Aim : The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of cognitive and physical training on physiological and psychological Levels of anxiety in the elderly. Material and Methods: Forty-nine aged females (62.3±2.6 years) with BMI of 35-49.99 kg/m<sup>2 were assigned to one of three groups: Cognitive (n= 17), Physical training [yoga] (n= 16) and control group (n= 10). The cognitive training protocol included breathing and imagery/visualization techniques, which lasted for an 8-week period, three sessions a week. Yoga practices comprising Asana and Pranaya training, three times a week, for two months. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory was given before and after intervention training. Biofeedback devices was used to monitor galvanic skin resistance and resting heart rate (as physiological and psychological markers of anxiety) in pretest and pre-test phases. The data were analyzed using analysis covariance and Bonferroni post hoc test. Results: It was indicated that anxiety score in cognitive training was significantly lower than control group ( P = 0.002) and also, anxiety score in physical Training was significantly lower than control group ( P = 0.01). No significant difference was found between the two training groups ( P = 0.18). Furthermore, both training groups had lower galvanic skin resistance ( P < 0.001). In addition, physical training group had a better status of resting heart rate after intervention compared to the cognitive and control groups (respectively, P = 0.04 and P = 0.001). Conclusions: It was concluded that the health benefits of Physical training [yoga] isn’t not specific to maintaining physical health, but also extends to lowering the anxiety in elderly with obesity. It was also suggested that cognitive training can mitigate the anxiety symptoms in the elderly while no physical changes were shown in cognitive training.

Anxiety Disorders, Emotional Literacy, and Emotion Expression in Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Hearing Students(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Aim: The present study was conducted to compare the symptoms of anxiety disorders, emotional literacy, and emotion expression in deaf, HH, and hearing students in four cities in Iran. Methods: This causal-comparative study was conducted with the participation of deaf, Hard-of-Hearing (HH), and hearing students in Iran in 2019. A total of 72 (38 HH and 34 deaf) students with HL and 72 hearing students participated in the present research. The Screen for Child Anxiety-Related Emotional Disorders, The Emotional Literacy Assessment Instrument, and The Emotion Expression Scale for Children were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using MANOVA. Results: The results showed a higher rate of anxiety disorders in deaf and HH students than in hearing students. Emotional literacy was lower in deaf and HH students than in the hearing students, and it was lower in deaf students than in the HH students. Also, disturbance in emotional expression (Poor Awareness Factor [PAF] and Expressive Reluctance Factor [ERF]) was higher in deaf and HH students than in hearing students, and PAF was lower in deaf students than in HH students. Conclusion:   The results support the existence of anxiety symptoms, low emotional literacy, and difficulties in expressing emotions in students with HL.Appropriate psychological and pedagogical strategies to reduce anxiety disorders and increase the level of emotion expression and emotional literacy in students with HL are recommended

The study is a part of a larger study on the impact of Robot-Assisted Language Learning (RALL) on English grammar acquisition and retention of adolescent English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. More specifically, the primary aim of the paper at hand was to examine the impact of RALL on adolescent EFL learners’ anxiety levels. In this regard, three intact classes (N=45) in a private language institute in Tehran were evenly divided into two experimental groups of RALL and Game-based Language Learning (GBLL) and one control group. The participants were adolescent male EFL learners between 11 to 15 years old with a mean age of 13. While the teacher, the textbook, and the teaching materials were identical in all groups, a kid-sized humanoid social robot was exclusively used in the RALL group. The data were collected through questionnaires in the final session for each group, and the results of descriptive statistics and ANOVA indicated that lower anxiety rates were observed in the RALL group. Our findings could clearly be proof of the efficiency of socially assistive robots in the instruction of language skills in a more favorable teaching context.

Sports are generally competitive and stressful. Competitive sport anxiety in athletes affects sports self-efficacy. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship of competitive anxiety and mindfulness with sports self-efficacy of male athletes mediated by family cohesion. The statistical population of this descriptive-correlational study covered all male athletes in Masjed Soleyman, Iran in 2021, and a sample of 258 athletes was selected using convenience sampling. The research tools included the Sports Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, Competitive Sports Anxiety Questionnaire, the Mindfulness Inventory for Sport, and the Family Cohesion Questionnaire. The proposed model was evaluated using path analysis, and indirect correlations were tested with bootstrapping. The results suggested that all direct paths to sport self-efficacy were significant except athletic mindfulness (p<0.01), and indirect paths to sports self-efficacy became significant through family cohesion (p<0.01). According to the results of this study, the proposed model had good fitness and was a major step toward recognizing the factors affecting sports self-efficacy in male athletes as it can be helpful in designing effective plans to reduce males' experienced tension and improve their sports self-efficacy.

The Effectiveness of Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Reducing the Anxiety of Women with Generalized Anxiety Disorder

  The purpose of the current research was the effectiveness of Cognitive hypnotherapy in reducing the anxiety of women with generalized anxiety disorder. This research was quasi-experimental in terms of practical purpose and in terms of data collection. The statistical population of the study included all women with generalized anxiety disorder who had referred to four counseling centers in Bandar Anzali city. For this purpose, 30 women diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder were selected and randomly divided into two experimental groups (15 people) and control (15 people) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Short Scale was administered to both groups and Cognitive hypnotherapy was performed for 2 months during 8 one-hour training sessions, individually for the subjects of the experimental group, and the control group did not receive treatment. Then the said questionnaire was again implemented on both groups. The data were analyzed using the covariance statistical method. The findings showed that Cognitive hypnotherapy was effective in reducing the anxiety of women with generalized anxiety disorder. Therefore, it can be concluded that psychologists and psychiatrists can use Cognitive hypnotherapy to reduce the anxiety of women with generalized anxiety disorder.

The Effectiveness of Yoga on Reducing Women's Anxiety

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Yoga on women's anxiety. This research was quasi-experimental. The statistical population of the research included women who visited Yoga clubs in Rasht city in 2021. For this purpose, 30 women who had a high score according to the Beck Anxiety Questionnaire (BAI) were selected as a purposive sampling and divided into two experimental (15 people) and control (15 people) groups. Then, Yoga exercises were performed for 8 ninety-minute sessions for the participants of the experimental group, and the control group did not receive any exercises during this period. Then the said questionnaire was again implemented on both groups. The data were analyzed using covariance analysis and SPSS27 software. The results showed that Yoga exercise was effective in reducing women's anxiety (p < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists can use Yoga exercises to reduce women's anxiety.
