This research aimed at evaluating the students’ information literacy and its relation with their tendency to e-learning. The research method was descriptive (correlation) from the point of view of gathering data, and an applied one from the point of view of objective (goal). The statistical population included all 9335 humanity major students of Islamic Azad University of Tehran Central Branch. 384 were selected as the statistical sample using Morgan table and through the use of classified random sampling method. The instruments for data-gathering were two researcher-made questionnaires, one for assessing students’ information literacy (on a scale of 7) and the other for e-learning (on a scale of 6). Formal, content and construct validity of both instruments were evaluated, and their reliability was estimated through Cronbach Alpha 0/80 and 0/73 respectively. Using SPSS software, the gathered data was analyzed through the use of descriptive and inferential methods such as Kolmogorov- Smirnov, one sample t-test, independent t and Freedman and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results showed that student's tendency toward e-learning and their level of awareness regarding the five above mentioned standards of information literacy were higher than average level. The results also showed that there was a meaningful relationship between the level of information literacy of students and their tendency toward e-learning.

This paper aims to study Vygotsky’s (1987) sociocultural theory of learning with respect to how it relates to technology-based second language learning and teaching. The researchers selected their participants from advanced students from Payame Noor University. We divided the participants into two groups- an experimental group and a control group. After teaching the course an experimental group was asked to continue practicing language in an online learning environment, whereas those in the control group were not told anything about practice procedure. We found that students’ engagement in an interactive group activity in the online learning can be a useful approach to facilitating and motivating internalization, learning, and better performance.

Identifying and Prioritizing the Components of Blended Learning in Elementary Schools(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

The general aim of the present research was to identify and prioritize the components of blended learning in elementary schools. This mixed-method research is of sequential exploratory type. In the qualitative stage, the content analysis method was used while in the quantitative stage, the descriptive survey was applied. Participants of the qualitative part were professors of educational sciences, fifteen of whom were selected for interview in a targeted manner. In vivo, coding was used for data analysis. Finally over 150 indicators and 6 main components (1- tools, 2- contents, 3- teaching method, 4-design, 5-evaluation, and 6- learning theories) were achieved. The research community of the quantitative part included all headmasters and head teachers, experts, and teachers of elementary schools in west Islamabad, in 2017-2018 academic year. Out of 650 individuals, 242 individual were selected through a stratified random sampling method with Morgan table. A questionnaire was designed and distributed based on the findings whose face validity was confirmed by the professors with the reliability of 0.87.  For descriptive analysis, the central and dispersion parameters were used, and for inferential analysis, the Smirnov test, Friedman test were applied using SPSS & LISREL. In addition to confirming and explaining the components, the findings showed that the internal correlation between the six components of the blended learning education is positive and meaningful, meaning that the application and promotion of each component in a combination allows the application, enhancement and strengthening of the other components.

From Collective Activity to Autonomous Learning: Fostering Learner Autonomy in Light of Activity Theory

Autonomous learning and social activity have excessively been the focus of interest in second language acquisition over the past decades. The present study aimed to explore how activity theory-as a branch of sociocultural theory focusing on social context-can promote Iranian EFL learners’ autonomy. To this end, fifty-six EFL students studying English translation at the Islamic Azad University, Tehran Central Branch, participated in the study. The participants were assigned to two groups, one experimental group and one control group. At the beginning of the semester, both groups took a language proficiency test to ensure their homogeneity. They also completed an autonomy questionnaire as the pre-test and post-test. The instruction in both groups was based on a five-step process of developing the academic writing skill, including prewriting, organizing, writing the first draft, revising and editing, and writing a new draft. However, only the experimental group received the instruction through an e-learning platform designed based on the six elements of activity theory-subjects, objects, mediating artifacts, rules, community, and division of labor-suitable for EFL writing classrooms. The results revealed that integrating activity theory to e-learning had a decisive role in enhancing the students’ learner autonomy. It is hoped that the findings raise both teachers and students’ awareness of implementing activity theory as a social learning framework to foster autonomous learning in EFL contexts.

Social Presence, Synchronous Tool Usage and Learning Performance in the e-Learning Classroom: What is the Bottom Line?

This study aimed to determine the university students’ level of social presence, preferred synchronous learning tool, and learning performance and their differences according to sex, age, year, major, Blackboard experience, and perceived computer literacy. The relationship between students’ social presence, preferred synchronous tool, and learning performance was also determined. The respondents were 29 students enrolled in the ESL online elective class, Global Business Communication, at a university in South Korea. There were two sets of online surveys used in this study. The statistical tools used in this study were the mean, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Mann-Whitney Test, and Kruskal-Wallis Test. The results showed that the students maintained a Moderately High level of social presence throughout the duration of the course, chose KakaoTalk as their preferred synchronous learning tool, and concluded the course with an overall average grade, or learning performance level of “B”. There was a significant difference regarding the students’ learning performance when they were classified according to Blackboard experience; and no significant relationship existed between the students’ social presence, preferred synchronous tool, and learning performance.

Technology Acceptance of Navid Learning Management System in the Iranian Medical English Courses under the COVID-19 Pandemic(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

This mixed-method study endeavored to solicit the perspectives of Iranian collegiate students passing the obligatory course of medical English through Navid Learning Management System and its acceptance during COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing Technology Acceptance Model, this study also sought to examine the possible effect gender, academic degree, instructional mode, and e-learning duration in LMS may have on the participants' attitudes. An online survey was employed to gather data from 78 Iranian students. Semi-structured interviews with ten participants were conducted as well to shed more light on the quantitative data regarding main advantages and disadvantages of medical English learning through Navid. The data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics along with inductive thematic analysis, respectively. Findings revealed that Iranian collegiate medical students viewed Navid as a comprehensive e-learning platform to be favorable in terms of its system/service quality, student/educational service quality, and perceived satisfaction, but its perceived satisfaction was not aligned with their needs. Moreover, neither the individual variables, (viz., age and academic degree), nor the instructional variables (viz., instructional mode and e-learning duration) were predictors of the discrepancies among the participants in their perspectives and acceptance of Navid. Learning ubiquitously and lacking face-to-face communication were the main advantage and disadvantage of learning medical English through Navid, respectively. Results revealed that although under the Covid-19 pandemic the acceptance of Navid and students' satisfaction with its use might not be related to the individual and instructional variables in the medical English courses, it might not be the case in others.

In the digital age, e - learning systems have been employed as new equipment in the higher education system in different universities. Consideringthe importance of optimization of this system, this research is aimed at providing a modelfor the effectiveness of e - learning at in higher education systems . The study is a descriptive survey study in terms of its data collection method . The population includes all the students of electronic courses at the University of Tehran . This population includes 1481 students of the University of Tehran in the academic year 2019 - 2020 . Regarding the population size, 300 students were selectedbased onstratified sampling, using Cochran ’ s formula.Lisrel and Amos softwarewere used for data analysis . In the first step, byliterature review, and based on the collected information, 87 components were identified to be related toe - learning effectiveness . Then, based on the highest frequency of the identified components in one hand, and their significance from the experts ’ viewpoints, on the other hand, 14 components were finally selected and classified in three major classes including;pedagogical, individual and technicalrelated factors.

Like almost all the world countries, Algeria is experiencing an exceptional state characterized by a real epidemic of Coronavirus (covid19), which has prompted all institutions (establishments, businesses, businesses, and people) precautions to curb the risks of this pandemic. To this end, the higher education sector has called on the entire university teacher and student community to turn to e-learning to ensure continuity of courses and TD. Our paper is in line with this, with a fundamental objective to analyze university teachers' behavior concerning new information and communication technologies during the health crisis of covid-19. Thus, to shed light on the main handicaps related to online learning in Algeria.

The infestation of the world pandemic has significantly changed the landscape of teaching and learning experience in Malaysia.  Particularly for the institution under study, E-learning, previously used as the support medium to face-to-face classroom teaching, has become the primary medium of teaching and learning amid Covid-19.  E-learning platform has replaced the face-to-face classes. Even though it is only a temporary approach, less is known in terms of its effectiveness.  The present paper intends to examine the factors contributing to E-learning's effectiveness in a Higher Education Institution in Malaysia amid the COVID-19 crisis. The Technology Acceptance Model underpinned the conceptual framework.   This study investigated the relationship between the independent variables (perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and self-motivation) and E-learning effectiveness.  The data were collected through an online self-administrated questionnaire using Google form and received a total of 354 respondents.  The data were analyzed using SPSS and Smart PLS.  The findings revealed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and self-motivation positively influenced E-learning's effectiveness.  This paper concluded that regardless of whether as the support medium or the primary medium in the teaching and learning process, the determinant to E-Learning effectiveness is still perceived the same. This study also supports the TAM proposition while incorporate self-motivation in measuring learning effectiveness.

Application of Adaptive Neuro-Based Fuzzy Inference System to Evaluate the Resilience of E-learning in Education Systems, During the Covid-19 Pandemic(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Education systems in the world are enduring COVID-19 induced perturbations and consequences. Given the growing use of E-learning during COVID-19 epidemic and expansion of Internet-based infrastructure, the need for a resilient approach to e-learning systems is deeply felt. This paper aims to address the issue of how to provide a model for evaluating the resilience of E-learning in Iranian virtual universities during the outbreak of coronavirus employing an Adaptive Neuro-Based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). In the present paper, 5 substantial factors including individual, assessment and support, content, agility, and technology were identified as inputs, and e-learning resilience was considered as single output. Moreover, ANFIS was employed to model the resilience of E-learning systems. Findings revealed almost medium to low degree of resilience for the e-learning system established in Iran’s virtual university. Statistical analysis demonstrated that there was no meaningful difference between experts’ opinions and our proposed procedure for E-learning resilience measurement. The proposed model showed significant sensitivity to changes in agility. Therefore, agility should be considered as the first priority in achieving the desired level of resilience for the e-learning systems of the Iranian virtual university.

E-learning has evolved for more than a decade, and universities are gradually embracing e-learning to provide more learning experience for their learners. E-learning is the use of electronic means through which training is received and obtained. E-learning offers a wide range of advantages (time and room mobility, cost-effectiveness, etc.) and also overcomes the limitations of digital learning that have led to the widespread adoption of the institute. The poor quality of e-learning services is one of the main causes of the number of errors collected. Experts proposed performance models for e-learning systems, but most relied solely on pedagogical opinions. From a software perspective, very limited attention is paid to evaluating the performance of e-learning applications. It is therefore quite difficult to evaluate the overall performance of the e-learning scheme effectively. The aim of this study is to draw up separate stakeholders in the e-learning system by providing a roadmap to ensure the effectiveness of their e-learning facilities, particularly in emerging countries and Iraq. The higher education data system guarantees and measures the performance of its e-learning system in its own way, as there is no specific definition of the performance of the e-learning system. This work is expected to be ready to harmonize the various stakeholders to a satisfactory standard within the performance framework.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the usage of e-learning systems became the main challenge for many universities. E-learning has risen as cutting-edge method for promoting learning delivery. To ensure productive use, it is important to continue using e-learning. Numerous studies have shown that continued usage by the user is the indicator of success in e-learning, and in recent years, research on continued use of e-learning is being explored at a higher level than before. However, to date, there have been no attempts to systematically analyse these studies in order to provide researchers and practitioners with a picture of the current state of continued usage of e-learning. The aim of this research is to provide an in-depth look at the theory of continued use information systems in e-learning context. In this study, we used a systematic review approach to collect, evaluate, and synthesize data on the accuracy and value of previous articles published in digital databases between 2009 and 2019 that were based on this research area. To include all relevant research papers that were written during this period time, we used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to collect and review studies by following a predefined review process that included both automated and manual search strategies. We listed 87 primary studies from the review study that presented research on the continued use of e-learning. These studies were analysed using a comprehensive mapping method that collected relevant information to address a series of research questions. We summarized and analysed the published articles, which covered a wide range of research subjects, including the majority of factors that affect e-learning use. While research on the continued use of e-learning is growing and providing a promising new field of research, the systematic review found that a clearer understanding of the environment and path is not well reported. This research will contribute to a better understanding of the factors that affect e-learning use over time

Offering the Model of E-Learning Quality Enhancement at Payame Noor University

The present study aims at identifying the appropriate approach to improve the quality of e-learning in Payame Noor University. The research is applied in terms of purpose, is descriptive in terms of nature, and is a mixed method in terms of implementation applying an interview and a survey. The research population consists of all professors and students in e-learning department of Payame Noor University studying in academic year of 2016-2017. The research samples, consisting of 327 students and 291 professors, were selected through stratified random sampling. For data collection, in the first stage, after reviewing the related literature and conducting a semi-structured interview with distance education professionals and experts, the quality indexes in e-learning were identified. Then, in the second stage, two researcher-made questionnaires, based on a 5-likert scale, were prepared and after verifying the content and construct validity and calculating the reliability through Cronbach's alpha formula above 0.70, they were distributed among students and professors. The results of study suggest that if we are to take steps to improve the quality of e-learning in PNU, in addition to paying attention to maintaining the current quality and keeping its improvement through two components of strategies, policies, and general objectives and technology infrastructures, which had the greatest impact on e-learning quality, we should also take action through these factors to increase the impact of other components. Also, in order to improve the quality of e-learning in PNU, strategies such as paying attention to the quality of interaction, preventing significant changes in management decisions at the university, and paying attention to the empowerment of all human factors were suggested.

Factors Affecting Academic Achievement of High School Students in Distance Education Centers in Kashan

This study investigated the relationships among self-regulated learning, motivation for academic achievement and self-concept in prediction of academic achievement of male high school students studying through distance education system in Kashan Province, Iran. A cross-sectional, descriptive- correlational design  was conducted among all male high schools students in Kashan’s distance education centers during 2015-2016(n=718). Using a multistage cluster sampling, 270 students were selected. Data were collected using Herman’s achievement motivation questionnaire (1970), the Pintrich & De Groot self-regulated learning scale (1990) and Becks self-concept scale (1990). Stepwise regression analysis was employed in the SPSS version 20. Evaluation of the quality of provided instruction in e-learning center of Tarbiat Modares University (TMU) from students’ and educational experts’ point of view

The present research was carried out with the aim of evaluating the quality and the extent of desirability of provided educational courses in TMU e-learning center. The method of this research is quantitative and in the nature is descriptive and analytical. Statistical population are divided into different parts: they are all students of e-learning center that are studying in the year 2015-2016 in free training center TMU, all teachers and PHD students of educational science department. Sampling was done in various stages by random sampling and purposive sampling. In order to gather the data, three questionnaires were conducted that their validity and reliability was confirmed. For analyzing the gathered data, one sample T-test was chosen. The results showed that the students were dissatisfied with the quality of the courses and evaluated the quality level of these courses as undesirable. Besides, the instructional specialists also evaluated the quality of the educational system, as well as the quality of the courses undesirable. So it can be resulted that the quality of the provided education does not have a desirable condition in this center and rejuvenation and development of the center needs a complete support from authorities in the university.

An Investigation of the Effective Components Considered in Designing E-Learning Environments in Higher Education and Offering a Framework for E-Learning Instructional Design

The Instructional design plays a key role in the effectiveness of various educational courses. Studies have shown that the Instructional design is one of the key factors that affect the quality of e-learning courses; however, not enough attention has been paid to the instructional design for designing and implementation of e-learning courses. As a result, we face courses and programs which lack quality. Therefore, exploring the effective components of e-learning designing in the literature and offering an e-learning instructional design for higher education was the purpose of this study. To this end, the study used a systematic review and some keywords related to the instructional design were searched for in scientific databases. After reviewing the articles, 33 studies, conducted between 2015 and 2019, were reviewed. The findings showed that needs analysis, content analysis, learner analysis, instructional principles and strategies, learning environment design, electronic content development, messages design, guidance and support, and assessment and evaluation were the primary components affecting the effectiveness of e-learning. Finally, having reviewed and analyzed the results, examined their relevance to the instructional design, and taken into account the experience of authors in the field of e-learning, a framework was proposed for e-learning instructional design, hoped to be utilized by researchers and e-learning   practitioners.

A Model for Utilizing Social Softwares in Learning Management System of E-Learning

Although social softwares are interactive and communication tools that play an effective role in the field of learning and teaching, unfortunately, the interactive educational method using web2 tools is a new approach in Iran. In the other hand, the learning management system used by many virtual universities to improve the learning and learning process of students has some shortcomings and problems. According to research conducted by researchers, the combination of a learning management system and a social software in universities has reduced many of these constraints. The purpose of this research is to provide a model for utilizing social soft wares in a learning management system. In this regard, the research strategy is to provide a research model and validate it. This research is applied in terms of purpose, and in terms of information gathering, it is a descriptive survey. The data gathering tool was a researcher made questionnaire. Sampling method is targeted judgment. Therefore, by reviewing the literatures, first, the capabilities of various social softwares (wiki, blog, social networking, podcast and tag) were identified in the field of learning and education and a model for using these softwares in each module of the learning management system in order to overcome some of the problems caused by these systems in virtual universities were provided. Then, the proposed model was approved by a survey of 15 experts in the fields of e-learning and communications and media. Based on the findings of the analysis of the collected data, the use of various social softwares in the LMS modules was confirmed and ranked in importance.

The Comparative Study of Learning Styles Among Students in The Electronic and Traditional Courses in Payame Noor University and Its Relationship with the Satisfaction of the Quality of Learning Courses

This research aimed to study the relationship between learning styles among two groups of electronic and traditional students in PAYAM NOOR University and its relationship with the satisfaction. The research method was descriptive and co relational research. The study population included all male and female master students of electronic (virtual) (N=1400) and traditional (N=1600) courses of PNU in 1395-1396.Using Cochran formula, the estimated sample size of students for traditional and electronic courses were equal to 310 and 302 respectively (totaled 612). The sample size was selected by stratified random sampling method with proportional assignment. In order to collect data, Kolb (1999) learning styles questionnaire and Bahrani and Jokar (1378) critical student satisfaction questionnaire were used. For both, traditional and electronic groups, between learning styles (convergent, divergent, assimilator and accommodator) and satisfaction, there was a significant relationship. The results showed that in the traditional course converging, diverging, assimilator and accommodator styles have the highest relationship with the academic satisfaction. In electronic courses, divergent, assimilator, and convergent styles have the most relation to academic satisfaction. The study of the status of learning styles in the electronic group showed that the convergent learning style with (14.57%), has the least frequency, divergent with (30.79%) has the highest frequency, the assimilator style has (28.14%) and the accommodator has (26.49%) frequency. Regarding the status of learning styles in the traditional group, convergent and accommodator style have the least frequency and the assimilator learning style has the most frequency. In terms of quality assessment, most students were not satisfied with the traditional courses and in contrast, the electronic group had more academic satisfaction.

The present study was based on research findings designed to identify the characteristics of an independent learner in a distance education system and to develop a standardized test to measure the characteristics and skills of an independent learner in a distance education system with e- learning. Based on the theoretical foundations of the research and the background of previous studies, while identifying the characteristics of an independent learner, a tool was developed under the name of “Independent Learner’s Characteristics Test (ILCT) in the distance education system with e-learning”, and the reliability of the factors of each item in the tool was measured and standardized using the exploratory factor analysis method. The present study, also, discussed and scrutinized the development and standardization of ILCT. The present study is an applied research which uses both field and documentary methods. It was carried out with a mixed method with quantitative and qualitative strategies. In order to develop and standardize ILCT, the characteristics of motivation, intelligence, and emotional intelligence were selected and evaluated as necessary characteristics of a learner from among other characteristics using the Delphi method according to the views of experts and professionals of educational and cognitive psychology sciences. Data on each characteristic was collected using available standardized questionnaires2. The questionnaires were prepared electronically in the form of a “temporary website of the questionnaire” and the website URL was provided to the virtual students of the Payame Noor University. A total of 452 postgraduate e-students studying at Payame Noor University of Iran answered the questions. The results were analyzed using SPSS (21.0), STATISTICA (8.0) and LISREL (8.7) softwares using an appropriate statistical method. In the end, the final test based on extracted results and standardization of the items was introduced under the name of “Independent Learner’s Characteristics Test (ILCT) in the distance education system with e-learning” for use by learners, teachers, planning authorities, content producers, etc. in distance education systems
