Uncovering the Relationship between EFL Teachers' Big Five Personality Traits and their Self-concept(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

The present study is an attempt to find out whether there is a significant relationship between EFL teachers’ Big Five personality traits and their self-concept. In addition, ittried to examine if there is any significant relationship between teachers' teaching experienceand their self-concept. 112 EFL teachers participated in this study. They were asked to complete NEO Five Factor Inventory and Teacher Self-concept Evaluation Scale. Data were analyzed using Correlation, Multiple Regressions, and ANOVA. Results indicated thatself-concept was significantly correlated with four components of the Big-Five personality traits.It was positively related with ""Neuroticism"", ""Openness to experience"" and ""Conscientiousness"", but negatively related with ""Agreeableness"". It was also revealed that there was not any statistically significant difference among the three groups (low, mid, and high experience EFL teachers) with respect to their self-concept. The overall results of the study were discussed, and the implications for policy and practice were made.

Developing a Model of Identity Styles and Emotional Intelligence with the Mediating Role of Self-Concept(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

The present study aimed to develop a model of identity styles based on emotional intelligence with the mediating role of self-concept. The statistical population of this study was 310 first and second-grade high school female students of Tehran in the academic year of 2018-2019. Standard questionnaires of Bar-On (1997) emotional intelligence, Berzonsky (1992) identity style, and Karami (2008) self-concept were used through structural equation modeling for analyzing data collected. The results showed that emotional intelligence had a positive relationship with normative identity, informational and commitment styles in high-school female students. On the other hand, it was found that self-concept has a positive relationship with commitment and informational identity styles and a negative relationship with diffuse identity style.Finally, regarding the mediating role of self-concept, the results showed that it mediated the relationship between emotional intelligence and commitment and informational identity styles positively, whereas negatively mediates the relationship between emotional intelligence and diffuse identity style. The results can be used to improve the social and individual status of students through the use of self-concept classes and workshops for students to enhance their level of critical thinking, as well as to change the attitude of families and society toward education on how to treat with their children.

Purpose: Today, women's participation in economic and business activities, along with the evolution of their employment, has created fundamental changes in their traditional role. The purpose of this research is to examine the women's semantic understanding of their developmental experiences at senior management positions in higher education institutions using a qualitative research methodology in narrative studies. For this purpose, an in-depth interview was used to access narratives. Methodolgoy: The research participants comprise 20 women in senior management posts in Tehran's higher education institutions who were selected through purposive sampling. The findings of the study, using the method of thematic analysis, have identified the factors that promote women's development in senior management positions in three themes: individual, organizational and socio cultural, and five themes of growth and training and family, personal characteristics, attitudes of employees and officials, community attitudes.Findings: The findings of the study, have identified the factors preventing women's development in senior management positions in three main themes of individual, organizational and cultural-social and seven themes of growth and training and education, family, personal characteristics, discrimination, attitudes of employees and officials, community attitudes, cultural stereotypes. Conclusion: Research shows that successful women leaders have unique a self-concept that allows them to overcome traditional gender boundaries.

Factors Affecting Academic Achievement of High School Students in Distance Education Centers in Kashan

This study investigated the relationships among self-regulated learning, motivation for academic achievement and self-concept in prediction of academic achievement of male high school students studying through distance education system in Kashan Province, Iran. A cross-sectional, descriptive- correlational design  was conducted among all male high schools students in Kashan’s distance education centers during 2015-2016(n=718). Using a multistage cluster sampling, 270 students were selected. Data were collected using Herman’s achievement motivation questionnaire (1970), the Pintrich & De Groot self-regulated learning scale (1990) and Becks self-concept scale (1990). Stepwise regression analysis was employed in the SPSS version 20. Effectiveness of Schema-based Parenting Training on Mothers' Parental Self-Efficacy, Self-Concept and Parental Acceptance of Children with Internalized disorders

Objective: Occurrence of behavioral problems during the childhood years has an adverse effect on the child's mental and physical development process and if not treated, it can lead to chronic physical and psychological problems in the child. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of schema-based parenting training on mothers' parenting self-efficacy, self-concept and parental acceptance of children with internalized disorders.Methods: The research was semi-experimental (pre-test, post-test and follow-up design with control group). The statistical sample included 30 mothers and children with internalized problems who were randomly assigned to two experimental groups (15 people) and a control group (15 people). The experimental groups were given schema-based parenting training for 8 sessions of 90 minutes. Children's self-concept scale, parental rejection-acceptance questionnaire, parental self-efficacy questionnaire were used to collect information. The data were analyzed based on multivariate analysis of variance with repeated measurements and SPSS-24 software.Results: The findings showed that approach of schema-based parenting education was effective in improving mothers' parenting self-efficacy, self-concept and children's parental acceptance (p<0.05).Conclusion: Based on the findings of this research it can be said that schema-based parenting education can help parents to know themselves correctly, learn the correct principles of parenting, control their own emotions and problems, lead to the improvement of mothers' parenting self-efficacy, self-concept and parental acceptance of children with internalized problems.

The effects of active video games and selected movement games on physical literacy components and self-concept in 8-12-year-old children(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Background: Rapid modern world changes have impacted efforts to educate children with abilities and skills suitable for societal goals. Aims: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of active video games and selected movement games on children’s physical literacy and self-concept. Materials and Methods: Sixty 8-12-year-old children from Ahvaz City were selected and assigned into three experimental and one control groups. Physical literacy and self-concept were assessed in pretest. The active video game group played Xbox Kinect bowling, athletics, tennis, soccer, volleyball, basketball games. The selected movement game group played researcher-designed games. The mixed game group engaged in both activities over 12 video and 12 movement game sessions for 8 weeks, with 30-minute per session. Data were analyzed by MANOVA and student t-test. Results: The results showed that active video games and selected movement games influenced children’s physical literacy and self-concept. Further, significant differences were found between the experimental groups' physical literacy and self-concept outcomes. The selected movement game and mixed game groups performed better in these measures than other groups. Conclusion: Results suggest parents and teachers consider implementing the selected movement games and active video games to bolster physical literacy and self-concept in children.

Body composition and lipid profiles, quality of life, self-concept, and nutritional knowledge of Pahlavani wrestlers in Kermanshah(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Background: Pahlavani wrestling is one of the ancient sports in Iran. However, very few studies have been conducted on various aspects of it.Aim: To investigate the body composition, lipid profile, quality of life, self-concept, and nutritional knowledge of Pahlavani wrestlers of Kermanshah city.Materials and Methods: Fifty-seven adult Pahlavani wrestlers participated in this study. They completed the quality of life, self-concept, and nutritional knowledge questionnaires on three consecutive days, and then, on two separate days, their body composition and lipid profile were also measured.Results: The quality of life, muscle mass percentage, and bone and mineral content were significantly higher than the normal values (P˂0.05). Also, the lipid profile was in a normal state. Conversely, the self-concept, nutritional knowledge, nutritional attitude, and nutritional practice were significantly lower than the normal values of these variables (P˂0.05). Finally, the BMI was significantly lower than the normal value (P˂0.05) and the fat percentage and visceral fat index were not significantly different (P˃0.05) from their normal values.Conclusion: The results indicated that Pahlavani wrestlers of Kermanshah are in favorable conditions in many physical and body composition health indicators, which somehow shows the possible positive effects of this sport on different aspects of health. However, Pahlavani wrestlers had a considerably lower self-concept and nutritional knowledge than the normal values.
