A Study on Socio-economic status Effects on Private Universities Architecture Students’ Educational Motivation

The main purpose in this research is A Study on Socioeconomic status Effects on Private Universities Architecture Students’ Educational Motivation. Since students could have a great role in reconstructing and improving the society through proper planning, studying students’ issues and their attitudes toward higher education with an insight of internal motivation and talents is among the main duties for higher education programmers. Considering the issue significance, the following research tries to study socioeconomic status effects on private universities architecture students’ educational motivation. Using the determining factors in students’ socioeconomic status, the research studies the relation between this status and students’ major, educational motivation, motivations in entering private universities and their job prospects. The statistical society for this research included 12 public and private universities and 306individuals were selected to answer the research questions through stratified random sampling. To analyze the data, descriptive and inferential statistics (Chi-square) were used. Results suggest that there is a significant relation between university type and major on the one hand and students’ socioeconomic status. But there is no significant relation between educational motivation and job prospective with students’ socioeconomic status.

Impact of Parental Socio-economic Status on High School EFL Learners' Academic Achievement: Parents' involvement and support in focus

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of multifactorial socio-educational variables of the family in the structural model of predicting the academic achievement of EFL learners and the mediating roles of parents' involvement and perceived autonomy support. The population of the study comprised all the high school EFL students in Urmia, from which 492 students (262 males and 230 females) were selected as the participants through Cochran's formula and stratified random sampling method. The study was conducted with a correlational design, using structural equation modeling method, and the assessment tools were standard questionnaires. The results of data analysis showed that perceived parental autonomy support, parental socio-economic status, and parents' involvement in education are significantly related to language learners’ academic achievement. Based on this finding, it is claimed that to improve the academic achievement of language learners, these three variables should be taken into consideration and strengthened as facilitating mediators.

The Role of Socio-economic Status in Information Seeking Behavior Based on the Knowledge Gap Theory: A Case Study of Qom University, Iran(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Purpose: Economic and social status play a prominent role in many human activities and their  function is accentuated in the theory of the knowledge gap. According to the idea, the knowledge of the people with higher socio-economic status increases compared to those with lower socio-economic status. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of socio-economic status (based on knowledge gap theory) in the information-seeking behavior of fellow members of staff at  Qom University.Method: The study was an applied research in terms of purpose and in terms of strategy and data collection was correlational. The population consisted of 761 university employees. Based on Cochran’s formula the sample of the study included 255 employees. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to collect data. Spearman and X2 statistical tests were applied to analyze data.Findings: People who have a higher socio-economic status (with higher employment, income and education levels) are more motivated to search and obtain information, and there is a significant relationship between the components of individuals' socio-economic status and the type of the used information resources. Socio-economic status affects the criteria for evaluating information resources, and people with higher rate use various evaluation criteria while assessing the information. People with socio-economic status use various and different channels to obtain information, thus, there is a positive and significant relationship between the use of search engines and meta-search engines, internal and external databases, conference papers, library RSS, specialized social networks, consultation with librarians and technical blogs, and their socio-economic status.Conclusion: The social and economic status explains and predicts the information-seeking behavior of the staff and the results confirmed the theory of knowledge gap. Prediction of the facilities required for searching and seeking information in organizations and making them accessible to all human resources can help provide fair access to information for the better part of society and reduce the knowledge gap.
