Towards the Development of a Socially-Informed, Process-Oriented Model of Research in Metadiscourse(مقاله پژوهشی دانشگاه آزاد)

The Journal of English Language Pedagogy and Practice, Vol.۱۰, No.۲۰, Spring & Summer ۲۰۱۷

حوزه های تخصصی:
Since the early development of interest in the interpersonal dimensions of academic communication in the 1980s, the analytic potentials of the concept of metadiscourse have motivated a large number of investigations. Although these analytic potentials have facilitated the study of diverse academic genres, there has always been a risk of detachment of textual analyses form the contextual origins and motivations. In some cases, this detachment has been so observable that the true discoursal nature of the interpersonal dimensions of academic communication has been reduced to classifications of a large number of pure textual properties. As a reaction to this reductionist trend, the present article provides a preliminary framework within which the contextual origins of metadiscourse features can be understood. It is suggested that if the findings of metadiscourse research are meant to be interpreted in meaningful ways, they should be contextualized within such process-oriented frameworks.
Conceptions of Research Publication among Iranian Doctoral Students of Applied Linguistics: Cherish the Wish to Publish or Rush to Perish(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)
حوزه های تخصصی:
The competitive academic atmosphere of the higher education worldwide along with the current trend in producing research-oriented knowledge by universities has made research publication the first priority for doctoral students. In this study, we addressed the conceptions of purpose, process, and product of publishing research articles among Iranian doctoral students of applied linguistics. To this end, thirty students were interviewed and the data were analyzed using the grounded theory approach. The findings demonstrated that doctoral students publish papers to prepare a competition-winning resume, significantly contribute to the ELT community, turn into life-long learners and problem-solvers, and fulfill their course requirements. Furthermore, with regard to the research publication process, they highlighted the role of mixed-methods in spotting real problems in context and getting their papers published in prestigious journals. Additionally, the students believed that publishing in international journals grants them the opportunity to gain international recognition, attract an international audience, receive expert quality feedback from professional reviewers, publish in journals specific in focus and scope, and avoid publishing in cheap predatory journals. Finally, the findings suggest that the doctoral students need more systematic coaching to successfully conduct and publish their research.
The Strategic SWOT Analysis to Use Social Marketing in the Design of the Research Development Model of Islamic Azad University(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)
As non-profit organizations, universities have specific goals and missions, their performance must be assessed for exploiting their limited available resources and achieving organizational goals. The purpose of this study is to employ the obtained strategies for evaluating the status of research area in the Islamic Azad University using SWOT analysis and design the research development model of the university through social marketing mix. A mixed methods research (quantitative-qualitative) has been used for the study carried out in two stages. In the first stage, SWOT analysis is used and in the second stage, social marketing is employed given the extracted strategies in the previous stage. In the qualitative section, the statistical sample included experts (deputies, research managers, students and professors who were the members of the young researchers club in the first stage and assistant and associate marketing professors in the second stage) selected via purposive sampling and theoretical saturation. In quantitative section, the research was descriptive and field-based where the statistical sample included 370 respondents from university branches at Tehran and Alborz provinces and selected via stratified random sampling. According to Cronbach alpha coefficient, reliability of the SWOT questionnaire was estimated equal to 98% and that of social marketing was equal to 96%. According to the results of the study, integrated social marketing could result in favorable research behavior.
Iranian English Language Teachers’ Conceptions Towards Research(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)
حوزه های تخصصی:
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine teachers’ perceptions towards research by first investigating teachers’ conceptions about research and second, by examining the extent to which teachers read and do research. Methodology: To this end, the participants of the present study were 98 English language teachers from language institutes and schools. Utilizing Borg’s (2009) questionnaire, at first, the questionnaire responses were analyzed to determine the teachers’ view of research; in this section, the teachers were asked to point out to what extent they felt the activities described in 10 scenarios were or were not research. Findings: The results indicated that three scenarios were considered to be “probably research” and scenarios 4, 5 and 6 were regarded as “definitely research” by the participants. On the other hand, two scenarios were recognized as “definitely research”. The results of the second research question showed that among 98 English teachers only 24 teachers “often or sometimes” read published research which is a very high index. Teachers’ reasons for the answers to the second research question were lack of time, knowledge, access to resources, and institutional support. The findings of this research indicate that teachers’ conceptions of research are very near to conventional scientific theories. Only 12.2% of the teachers mentioned that they “do research”. Conclusion: the findings of the present study may be useful for teachers who want to promote their English teaching as such findings are suggested to improve their level of engagement in research activities, and consequently the quality of their research.
Evaluating the Evaluator: Towards understanding Feed-back, Feed-up, and Feed-forward of Moroccan Doctorate Supervisors’ Reports
حوزه های تخصصی:
Supervisor’s feedback is both a naysaying and a puzzling concern that has always tormented academics in higher education. Particularly, written feedback on pre-final or final versions of a submitted doctoral dissertation is indisputably the most significant step toward granting a doctoral student supervisee the right to defend his/her research project. It also constitutes a rich source on how students are to academically go about writing their dissertation and even go public as they are supposed to produce one or two articles before their vivas. The present research explores the written comments provided by supervisors on Moroccan doctorate supervisees’ dissertations. It principally focuses on both overall and in-text comments and whether they serve as feed-back to take corrective actions for the errors made, feed-up to focus on strategies to attain the academic goal, or feed-forward to be proactive and avoid disturbances that might affect the quality of the final work. A total of 40 supervisees from the English department at FLLA, Ibn Tofail University belonging to Language and Society Research Laboratory participated in the study. Data were collected using an online questionnaire through available Google forms platform. The results revealed that the total majority of supervisees tended to get a mixture of written remarks with a central focus on the quantity rather than on form. This is therefore a plus as to the agreement as well as the variance of the Moroccan supervisors in the use of these evaluation criteria while evaluating their supervisees’ doctoral dissertations targeting different types of feedback with a huge focus of the cyclicity of their utilization.

Sustainable development does not work without education and both without the institutionalization of research. The first condition is to pay attention to research in all parts of the school, which is achieved in the form of a researcher school. The present study was conducted with the aim of designing and validating the researcher school model using a combined method of multi-stage exploratory type. In the qualitative part of the study, the phenomenological strategy was performed and the quantitative part of the study was performed through factor analysis. Methods of obtaining data: included semi-structured individual interviews with educational scientists and qualitative analysis of texts. In order to assess the accuracy of the interview questions, the question form was reviewed by 10 experts and professors in the field of educational sciences. The continuity of the interview form has been examined by providing a summary of the identified topics and topics to three experts through qualitative study methods and applying their opinions. 30 professors of Farhangian University and PhD students of educational sciences, experts of relevant departments of the Ministry of Education, successful principals and teachers in the country were selected by purposive sampling method. In this study, the components of values, learning education activities, professional competencies, educational-executive structure, out-of-school interactions and equipment are of equal importance for scientific experts and professors.

The Erosion of Academic Virtue(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Haack articulates something of what she takes the moral demands of academic life to be, calling for such virtues as industry, honesty, realism, patience, and consideration. She then explains why she believes the current academic environment is sapping the strength of character these virtues require, and why graduate students are caught in the middle. She writes primarily about philosophy, but much of what she has to say applies to other humanities disciplines and much of that to other disciplines as well---and while she writes primarily about the U.S. situation, much of what she says applies elsewhere too.
Handbook of Research on Digital Content Management and Development in Modern Libraries by Thanuskodi, S.(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)
منبع:
International Journal of Digital Content Management, Vol. ۲, No. ۲, Winter & Spring ۲۰۲۱

حوزه های تخصصی:
Libraries have long been involved in content management due to their mission and task, but with the advent of the digital age, this content has changed from print to digital. Digital content management is related to storing, organizing, indexing and monitoring digital content used by an organization. Digital content can take many forms, including text files, documents, graphics, images, animations, and audio and video files. This book is a handbook consisting of 15 chapters in the field of research on digital content management and development in libraries, elaborating on various areas such as: Consortia, Digital Libraries, Digital Resource Management, EResources, Information Retrieval, Knowledge Management, Open Access, Repositories, RFID Technology. Even so, in this book, the research topics mentioned have not been studied in depth. In my opinion, considering the thematic importance of the book, it would be better to address newer research topics such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital twins, virtual reality, research data management, etc. It is suggested that a new collection consisting of the chapters of the proposed areas be compiled.
