Impact of Using YouTube Videos on Iranian Intermediate Male and Female EFL Learners' Listening Skill Development

This study aimed at investigating the effect of instructional YouTube videos on Iranian male and female EFL learners' listening comprehension. It was conducted with 60 male and female intermediate male and female EFL learners. The Oxford Quick Placement Test (OQPT) was used to measure the participants’ language proficiency to make sure about homogeneity of the participants. The participants were assigned into two experimental groups and two control groups based on their gender. Then, the experimental groups received instructional YouTube clips, but the control group received the same material without YouTube clips. A pre-test post-test quasi-experimental design was adopted for the purpose of doing this research study. The findings represented that the experimental groups had a significantly higher performance than the control groups and there was no significant difference between male and female learners. The findings of the study offer some practical implications for EFL teachers, learners, curriculum planners, and teaching methodology.

Agovernmentshouldusesocialmediaforcommunicatingwithitscitizen.Theengagement index score is one of the methods for assessing the rate of governmental success in using social media as a tool in establishing interactive relationships with its citizen. In general, the engagement index score is obtained by calculating the number of posts, number of likes and comments, and so forth on a single social media account. Therefore, we propose an integrated engagement index score for three social media: Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. In this work, we carry out a study for local governments in Indonesia. The engagement index score was adopted from the previous research. However, we modified the formula to get a better distribution score.Our modified formula generates the same ranking sequences with previous research.Also, Facebook and Youtubes’ reaction are considered in this work to analyzes the quality of sentiments to a Facebook fan page and Youtube channel of localgovernments.

The Impact of Pedagogical Use of YouTube Channel “EngVid” on Speaking Skills of Iranian EFL Learners(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

This study explores the impact of "EngVid" YouTube channel on improving Iranian EFL Learners' speaking abilities. The program employed in this study provided the learners with video clips for Improving their speaking skills. The participants were forty-eight advanced EFL learners studying English at a private institute in Esfahan. The participants were assigned to experimental and control groups. The YouTube channel "EngVid" is used in this project as a technological tool to enhance students' speaking abilities in the experimental group. The pair-work method was employed in the experimental class. On the other hand, the control group should present at the class and received help from the researcher through the conventional method. After six sessions, a post test was given to experimental and control groups. The application of an independent t-test and paired sample t-test indicated that the performance of the participants exposed to video clips from "EngVid" YouTube channel was significantly superior to that of the control group. The present study offers valuable insights for CALL material designers in selecting the optimal combination of video clips from platforms like YouTube to facilitate L2 speaking skills.

Using Youtube Content to Enhance Speaking Skills by Scribbling While Retelling

The most crucial part of learning a language is speaking. The majority of EFL students struggle to express themselves verbally. Ten students from the English department took part in the research to address these problems. Some actions were performed to accomplish the goal. Due of the epidemic, the teacher substituted the customary classroom setup with a WhatsApp group. To start the class, he distributed the YouTube URL link. The pupils viewed and listened to the YouTube videos. They were able to use some of the provided tools to understand the subject as they went along. The pause, rewind, and fast forward buttons allowed them to pause, go back in time, and move forward. By recording their finished work on film, the students were able to recount the educational process. They started scribbling to increase their verbal fluency. They were writing on a piece of paper as they talked. Following the conclusion of the study, the students answered the questionnaire. The data from the teaching-learning process and the questionnaire were examined using a mix-method approach. Conclusion: Students' listening, vocabulary, grammar, and speaking skills are enhanced by using the offered URL, the WhatsApp group application, YouTube, recounting, and scribbling. Additionally, their practice was becoming less jittery and interrupted. Other educators who teach speaking and related courses could find this kind of discovery useful.
