Pronunciation of English language is a very important sub-skill of speaking module in second language learning process. However, it is ignored, neglected, and even never gotten least attention by the teachers, administrators, and stakeholders especially in Pakistan. Grammar, vocabulary, and the other linguistic skills such as reading and writing are emphasized whereas pronunciation has never been focused in language classes. That is why, Pakistani learners have to face a lot of pronunciation problems and they are unable to speak English even after years of learning English. Computer technology provides its learners with a wide variety of different pedagogical tools for pronunciation learning and teaching. Computer augmented instructions have always been proved beneficial. Teachers and learners can use computer technology for the production and articulation of the sounds and they can be familiar with stress and intonation pattern resulting in the reduction of the pronunciation barriers. This article discusses the status of pronunciation and prevailed approach of pronunciation teaching in Pakistan. So, the purpose of this study is to highlight the importance of computer aided instructions for pronunciation teaching at the school level in Pakistan.
Synchronous and Asynchronous Multimedia and Iranian EFL Learners’ Learning of Collocations(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)
حوزه های تخصصی:
The use of effective multimedia instructions such as mobiles, computers, and the internet in language learning has turned out to be useful since the last decades. The impact of multimedia and synchronous approaches of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) on English as a foreign language (EFL) learners' learning of language skills and components has been studied to some extent. However, the impact of computerized mediated instruction through multimedia (text and graphics) on learning collocations requires further investigations. This study aimed at investigating whether synchronous and asynchronous multimedia components: text and text with added graphics had any effects on EFL learners' learning of collocations. In doing so, 150 male EFL learners at pre-intermediate proficiency level were selected through convenience sampling. They were divided into six groups. The results of the study showed that computerized mediated instruction was more effective than non-computerized instruction. Also, synchronous computerized instruction was more effective than asynchronous computerized instruction. The results also showed that presentation through text with added graphics was more effective than presentation through simple text. The results are discussed and some pedagogical implications are presented.

This study aimed at investigating the effect of instructional YouTube videos on Iranian male and female EFL learners' listening comprehension. It was conducted with 60 male and female intermediate male and female EFL learners. The Oxford Quick Placement Test (OQPT) was used to measure the participants’ language proficiency to make sure about homogeneity of the participants. The participants were assigned into two experimental groups and two control groups based on their gender. Then, the experimental groups received instructional YouTube clips, but the control group received the same material without YouTube clips. A pre-test post-test quasi-experimental design was adopted for the purpose of doing this research study. The findings represented that the experimental groups had a significantly higher performance than the control groups and there was no significant difference between male and female learners. The findings of the study offer some practical implications for EFL teachers, learners, curriculum planners, and teaching methodology.
Investigate the Impact of Educational Multimedia on English Vocabulary Learning
حوزه های تخصصی:
Learning of students. This study, in terms of purpose, applied, and in the manner and method of implementation, is an integral part of empirical studies. In this research, a four-group Solomon design with pre-test and post-test, and control group were used. The statistical population consisted of all undergraduate students at Kermanshah Payam Noor University, who had specialized language lessons during the semester. Among them, 60 people were selected as the statistical sample using available sampling. To test the students' learning, a researcher-made test was used. The validity of the test using the Kooder Richardson method was 82. announced. SPSS software was used to perform statistical calculations, and multivariate analysis of variance analysis was used to investigate the hypotheses of the research. The results of the data analysis showed that there is a significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups in the visual, written, audio, and oral components, but the effect of the pre-test, as well as the interaction of pretest and group is not meaningful. The results also showed that the participation of learners in training exercises, while paved the way for activating knowledge of learners' resources, helps them to associate past and future. These findings ultimately confirm the impact of multimedia education on the level of learning the student's English language vocabulary, and can be used in conjunction with other intervening methods.
The Effect of Multimedia Technology on Improving Listening Achievement of Iranian Secondary School Students
حوزه های تخصصی:
The study tried to examine the possible effect of multimedia materials on augmenting listening skills of girls in Meheaval higher secondary school, Karaj city. The next purpose was to detect whether there is a meaningful relationship between students’ attitudes towards using multimedia materials and teaching listening skills. The participants of this study were 60 second-year high school (EFL famale students) in the second semester of 2016 academic year. The homogeneity of the participants was ensured through application of the Oxford Placement Test (OPT, 2001). The materials was comprised of students’ textbook and Listening Assisted Multimedia. Three types of instruments which were utilized namely, listening comprehension pre-test, post-test, and a listening assisted multimedia questionnaire. Independent samples t-tests and regression coefficients were applied to determine whether there were significant inter and intra-group differences. The results showed evidence that multimedia materials significantly enhanced EFL learners’ listening achievement. It was also found that the attitude to the use of multimedia had a statistically significant impact on explaining the changes in learners’ listening skill. Based upon the findings of the study, it is recommended that the English instruction should be integrated to the English instruction listening course. The effect of multi-media conversational style education on increasing communication skills of female students.
حوزه های تخصصی:
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of conversational style education through multimedia on increasing communication skills of female students. The research method was quasi-experimental and the statistical population included female students in sixth grade of District 2 of school system in Tehran(Iran), of whom 60 were selected by cluster sampling and placed in two groups of control and experiment. Data collection tools included Attar's standard communication skills questionnaire (2007) whose face validity was confirmed by eleven teachers using Delphi technique and its reliability through Cronbach's alpha coefficient for subscales, emotion management, others perception and assertiveness. It was equal to 0.92, 0.89 and 0.88, respectively. Research data were analyzed using SPSS.22 software. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of the control and experimental groups regarding students' communication skills at the level of 95%. Students' communication skills in conversational style through multimedia were better than students trained in the traditional way. The results of this study indicate the positive role of interactive teaching through multimedia in increasing the communication skills of primary school students, and this emphasizes that schools and educational institutions need more multimedia tools to deepen Learn and enhance learners' communication skills.
