The present study aimed to examine the relationship between school participation and individual characteristics among upper secondary school students in District 3 of Tabriz. In terms of purpose, the study is applied, and with regard to data collection, it follows a descriptive–correlational design. The statistical population consisted of 14,412 upper secondary school students in District 3 of Tabriz. Based on the Krejcie and Morgan table, a sample of 374 students was selected. Sampling was conducted using proportional stratified random sampling, with strata formed based on age, gender, and grade level. Data were collected using the School Participation Questionnaire developed by Anderson et al. (2019) and the Social Intelligence Questionnaire developed by Silvera, Martinussen, and Dahl (2001). Content validity (CVI) and face validity of the questionnaires were evaluated and confirmed by a panel of subject-matter experts. Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, yielding coefficients of 0.938 for the school participation questionnaire and 0.819 for the social intelligence questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, and inferential analyses included independent samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation coefficients. In addition, structural equation modeling (SEM) using PLS-SEM (SmartPLS 3) was employed to examine the structural relationships among school participation, social intelligence components, individual characteristics, and academic achievement. The findings indicated that school participation did not differ significantly according to demographic characteristics or academic achievement.
