چکیده
تمایل به اجتناب از اشباع شناختی در ترجمه شفاهی علاقه به استفاده از ابزارهای ترجمه به کمک رایانه را افزایش داده است. مطالعه حاضر کیفیت ترجمه اعداد توسّط مترجم مایکروسافت و مترجمان شفاهی حرفه ای هم زمان را بررسی می کند. برای این هدف، مجموعه ای از سخنرانی های سیاسی ارائه شده در سازمان ملل جمع آوری شد. آزمون «کای‑مربع پیرسون» نشان داد که عملکرد مترجم مایکروسافت و مترجمان حرفه ای در زمینه ترجمه هم زمان اعداد یکسان است. درحالی که خطاهای مایکروسافت از نظر نوع نسبت به خطاهای مترجمان شفاهی محدودتر است. به عبارت دیگر، خروجی مایکروسافت فقط دو نوع خطا (حذف و سایر) را نشان می دهد. درحالی که مترجمان شفاهی تنوّع بیشتری از انواع خطاها (حذف، تقریب، واژگانی، آوایی و سایر) را در ترجمه اعداد انجام می دهند؛ بنابراین، به نظر می رسد که در زمینه ترجمه هم زمان اعداد تلفیقی از ترجمه مایکروسافت و ترجمه انسانی می تواند رویکردی مؤثر باشد. به عبارت دیگر، مترجم مایکروسافت می تواند به عنوان یک ابزار کمکی برای ارائه ترجمه های سریع و دقیق اعداد استفاده شود، درحالی که مترجمان هم زمان حرفه ای می توانند تمرکز و دقت خود را به سایر عناصر پیام اختصاص دهند.The Numbers Game: A Comparative Study of Microsoft Translator and Professional Simultaneous Interpreters
Interest in computer-assisted interpreting tools has increased as a result of the desire to prevent cognitive saturation during interpreting. The present study examined the quality of interpreting numbers by Microsoft Translator and professional simultaneous interpreters. For this purpose, a collection of political speeches delivered at the United Nations was gathered. The results showed that there was no significant difference between Microsoft Translator and professional interpreters in terms of interpreting numbers. There was a significant difference in the error categories across the types of numbers, indicating that interpreting errors varied depending on the type of number. The findings of this research suggest that Microsoft Translator could be a useful tool for assisting human interpreters during simultaneous interpreting. In other words, Microsoft Translator could provide a quick and accurate interpreting of numbers, alleviating the cognitive burden on human interpreters and enabling them to focus their attention on other aspects of the conversation.
