This paper intends to highlight one of the key concerns of housing designers i.e. the influence of open space on human satisfaction as well as their attachment to a particular place. Consequently, neighborhood open spaces with their meaningful layout seem to be constituent elements of residential complexes. Although, architects and designers try to create qualitative areas among buildings, the function of open spaces has not fully been defined yet. As such, the current research aims not merely to elaborate on the role of open spaces, rather tries to propose designing criteria for residential complexes. Based on previous researches, the paper has investigated open space characteristics by taking into account Ekbatan residential complex in the west of Tehran metropolis, hence; proposed a model with effective variables. A survey was done after randomly selecting household samples there. Findings demonstrated the principal role of open spaces in the attachment to neighborhood. Security and quietness were the two other important criterions for those residents. Based on these findings, it can be said that the physical attributes play two roles in the neighborhood attachment; first, they facilitate social activities and provide opportunities to develop social attachment and second, enhance architectural attributes including aestheticism and density.

Security as one of the basic human needs has a special place in relaxation, comfort and spiritual needs provision. For this reason, security is always of managers, planners, architects and urban designers' interest. Solutions and strategies of security provision have been fundamentally changed following prevailing change of housing architecture patterns from homes to residential complexes and high-rise buildings. Principles, concepts and patterns of residential complexes form are also more originated from its resources and ideas shaping namely Western culture rather than Iranian-Islamic foundations. Individual and social security is emphasized as one of effective aspects in housing design and residential complexes in Islam. The present study was done aimed to explain a conceptual framework for Iranian-Islamic design of residential complexes. The method is a qualitative type and using documents and Islamic texts and also a few examples of residential complexes and validation by experts. The results of the study show that two main principles are dignity and privacy and subsidiary principles are contentment, clarity, nature, evolution from diversity to unity, classification and spatial hierarchy and proximity of the main structure of conceptual framework of individual and social security in residential complexes.

The correlation between urban green space and sense of belonging has been investigated in researches; However, few scholars have mentioned the relationship between the designable physical components of vegetation and the sense of belonging. This study investigates a relationship between three physical parameters of green space - "visual density," "weighted height of vegetation," and "per capita ratio of green space to an open common area of the complex" - and a resident's sense of belonging through five subjective and objective independent variables - transparency," "proportion and scale," "physical and visual diversity," "flexibility" and "privacy and Enclosure " - in four residential complexes in the city of Qom - the center of Iran. Data were extracted from a survey study (n=320), documents, and written sources. it was analyzed using second-order confirmatory factor analysis and hierarchical linear regression. Based on the research literature review and identified gaps, a conceptual model was presented to explain the factors contributing to promoting a sense of place through greening in residents. In the results, a level of a perceived sense of belonging of the residents of the samples in the central courtyard was observed to be higher than in the scattered courtyard. Also, a positive correlation was observed between the psychological and physical components of the green space with the feeling of belonging to a place. The findings showed that among the psychological components, the "transparency," and among the physical components, the "Per-Capita Green Area" had the most positive effect on the resident's sense of belonging

The present research aims to determine the factors influencing the place attachment users of social housing complexes from the residents' perspective using the content analysis research method. From the research methodology perspective, this research is qualitative research conducted with the help of library and field studies by studying documents related to the topic, taking photographs, and semi-structured interviews with 387 residents of social housing complexes in Shiraz who were selected by random probability method. The interviews, which were in the form of audio and video files, were converted into text and entered into the ATLAS-TI 9 software. After coding and determining the validity of the subcategories, concepts, and codes by ten experts in the design of residential complexes, they were extracted in the form of diagrams. The data coding by subcategories and concepts is also compared with the effective components of designing social housing complexes. It is worth mentioning that the selection of social housing complexes in Shiraz was done by the AHP method with the help of Expert Choice 11 software. The findings revealed that the components related to the place attachment of the residents's social housing complexes based on interviews with their users include social connections, emotional connection with the place, the meanings of the place, and the dark side of the attachment to the place.
