A Mixed-methods, Cross-sectional Study of Assessment Literacy of Iranian University Instructors: Implications for Teachers' Professional Development(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

Professionalism requires that language teachers be assessment literate so as to assess students’ performance more effectively. However, assessment literacy (AL) has remained a relatively unexplored area. Given the centrality of AL in educational settings, in the present study, we identified the factors constituting AL among university instructors and examined the ways English Language Instructors (ELIs) and Content Instructors (CIs) differed on AL. A researcher-made, 50-item questionnaire was constructed and administered to both groups: ELIs (N = 155) and CIs (N = 155). A follow-up interview was conducted to validate the findings. IBM SPSS (version 21) was used to analyse the data quantitatively. Results of exploratory factor analysis showed that AL included three factors: theoretical dimension of testing, test construction and analysis, and statistical knowledge. Further, results revealed statistically significant differences between ELIs and CIs in AL. Qualitative results showed that the differences were primarily related to the amount of training in assessment, methods of evaluation, purpose of assessment, and familiarity with psychometric properties of tests. Building on these findings, we discuss implications for teachers’ professional development.

Professionalism and Commitment among Iranian EFL Teachers: Do Educational Context and Gender Make a Difference?

This study explored the status of professionalism and commitment among Iranian EFL Teachers. In doing so, 136 (86 private-and 50 public-sector) EFL teachers of different ages (25-55) from different schools and institutes in Tehran participated in this study. The participants completed the pertinent instruments (i.e., Teachers’ Professionalism and Organizational Commitment Questionnaires). Moreover, out of 136 participants, 40 EFL teachers were interviewed. The results showed that both professionalism and commitment along with their subcategories were rationally high among EFL teachers. Furthermore, a positive correlation was found between EFL teachers’ professionalism and commitment. Besides, the content analysis of interviews indicated that professional teachers were committed to their teaching and were sensitive to learners’ needs. Likewise, committed teachers were actively looking for professional development opportunities. The results also showed that female EFL instructors had a higher level of professionalism and commitment than their male counterparts. Additionally, the results indicated that EFL instructors in language institutes had a higher level of professionalism and commitment than those in senior secondary schools. The findings can support EFL policymakers, supervisors, managers, and teacher trainers to grasp a better picture of professionalism and commitment in Iranian EFL educational contexts.

Basically, the progressing society without the presence and existence of specialized work resources with strong tendencies towards ethics and professional principles in the work environment will not be able to achieve its lofty goals and experience development and growth in various economic, political and cultural sectors. Based on this, the current research aims to provide a model of professionalism in the system Iran administration was done. The current research is a qualitative research method. Research in terms of the result of the component It is developmental-applied research that the statistical population of this research is 25 elite people identified in the University of Medical Sciences They were from Shiraz, who were interviewed who had at least 10 years of experience and had a master's degree and a doctorate and the snowball sampling continued until the opinions of these experts reached the point of theoretical saturation and direction Conducting research after designing the general questions and formulating the interview process, conducting in-depth interviews with experts became. The data collected in this research were combined using thematic analysis technique. To review the validity of the research findings was presented to the participants and the text of the theory was studied by them and their points of view were applied at the end of this research, it was studied and reviewed by the professors, and some points were made to modify or change the final theory became. Reliability of data by showing the path of researchers' decisions and also placing all the raw data of the analysis done, the codes, categories, the process of studying the primary goals and questions were given to the academic professors and the desired corrections applied. In order to analyze the data, schematic analysis and data base theory were used. In the presented model, and social accountability as causal factors, organizational conditions as background factors, requirements and necessity environmental factors as intervening factors. In addition, with strategies such as creating open doors for dialogue Knowledge and convergence of actions with professionalism can lead to consequences such as social, financial and behavioral functional results Clients and employees found hands.
