Incremental Theory of Intelligence and Writing Performance of Iranian IELTS Candidates

Incremental intelligence plays an important role in self-regulating and enhancing writing performance among language learners. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship among variables of the incremental theory of intelligence, self-regulatory writing strategies, implicit theory of writing, and writing performance in EFL learners. To do so, 320 Iranian IELTS candidates were invited to participate in the study. Three questionnaires, namely incremental intelligence, self-regulatory writing strategy, and implicit theory of writing, were utilized. The participants included male and female IELTS candidates aged 19-27 years with a minimum band score of 6.5 in their writing skill. Furthermore, their educational qualifications included BA and MA degrees. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS and structural equation modeling (SEM). The correlation analysis showed that the incremental theory of intelligence had a significant relationship with self-regulatory writing strategy, implicit theory of writing, and writing performance. Moreover, the obtained results of SEM confirmed the findings of the correlational analysis, indicating statistically significant positive correlations among the variables of the study. The findings revealed that a growth-oriented mindset could affect students’ use of four types of self-regulatory writing strategies. Self-regulatory writing strategies also played a pivotal role in guiding, stimulating, motivating, and sustaining learners’ efforts, thus predicting writing performance. The results of this study can help EFL learners learn how to regulate and manage themselves in writing skills. Learners can assess the extent of their professionalism and endeavor to identify their weaknesses in the learning process.

ارائه الگوی مدیریت منابع انسانی سبز با رویکرد فرا ترکیب(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

هدف این پژوهش ارائه الگوی مدیریت منابع انسانی سبز می باشد. این پژوهش از نظر هدف کاربردی، از نظر نحوه جمع آوری داده ها به شکل کیفی و از نظر روش اجرای پژوهش با رویکرد فراترکیب می باشد. جامعه آماری تحقیق شامل 15 نفر از خبرگان سازمانی مدیران و متخصصین حوزه منابع انسانی می باشند که به روش نمونه گیری هدفمند انتخاب شدند. استخراج مؤلفه ها و شاخص های مدیریت منابع انسانی سبز از بررسی پیشینه و مبانی نظری به دست آمد و سپس برای تحلیل از روش دلفی فازی در سه راند استفاده شد. مؤلفه ها و ابعاد مدیریت منابع انسانی سبز شامل 9 بعد فرآیند سبز استراتژی سبز حمایت سبز فرهنگ سبز آموزش سبز پاداش سبز مشارکت سبز تجزیه و طراحی شغل سبز مدیریت انضباط سبز و 20 مؤلفه شناسایی و تائید شد. نتایج نشان داد که بعد استراتژی سبز در مدیریت منابع انسانی سبز در مرحله اول با میانگین (967/0) و دوم با میانگین (942/0) که اعداد به دست آمده تقریباً همپوشانی را در دو مرحله پایانی دارند. همچنین نتایج نشان می دهد که در بعد استراتژی سبز مؤلفه همراستایی استراتژیک سبز بالاترین نظرات خبرگان را دارا بوده؛ در مرحله اول با میانگین (990/0) و دوم با میانگین (973/0) که نشان از اشباع کامل نظرات خبرگان و همپوشانی این دو مرحله را دارا بوده است.

The Effects of Pot-Luck Flipped Classrooms (PFC) on the Development of Translation Competence: A Study of Novice Translators(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

This study investigates the effect of Pot-luck Flipped Classroom (PFC), meaning the implementation of pot-luck, as an innovative technique, in a flipped classroom (FC), on the development of translation competence (TC). The advances and developments in science and technology and the need to exchange the newly-developed information, knowledge, and technology highlights the demand to train professional translators, and thus, the development of TC becomes an essential skill of 21st. century. FC learning model and pot-luck innovative teaching technique have proven the enhancement of the effective learning. Therefore, in this study, we combined them as PFC to develop TC via collaboration and active involvement in a learner-centered environment. A total of 57 Translation Studies students, including 27 boys and 30 girls took part in this study. We used a quasi-experimental design with an experimental (PFC) and control group. Data were collected via Translation Competence Acquisition Questionnaire before and after the intervention of PFC. Findings showed a statistically significant difference (significant at 0.05) in all TC components in experimental group after the intervention of PFC. Thus, PFC proved to be efficient. Finally, pedagogical implications are discussed and suggestions for further studies are also provided.

Software Technology and Writing Skills Improvement of Intermediate EFL Learners

The presented study examined the effect of applying software technology, (i.e., WhiteSmoke Writing Software (TM 2020), on the improvement of EFL learners' writing skills. To do so, 55 EFL learners ranged in age from 20 to 22 who were studying English as a Foreign Language in Bahar Institute of Higher Education, Iran were invited to participate in the research. During the study, the participants who were already studying Passages coursebook were informed that for 7 weeks the class orientation and focus will change to writing instruction, which was most welcome by them. One class was considered as an experimental group of 26 students, while the other one was a control group of 29 students. Based on the prior completion of the course, all were considered intermediate. Control group students worked conventionally on the book and received feedback on their performance from the teacher while the learners in the experimental group worked with WhiteSmoke Writing Software which is the most comprehensive grammar checker. At the end of the study, the comparison of the pretest and posttest demonstrated that the participants in the experimental group outperformed the control group subjects at a 0.05 significant level. The outcomes of the current study approved that the application of software technology in the classroom context was treasured. Also, the utilization of software made the learners be in charge of their own learning process, which can be a great advantage on the part of online teaching and learning.

Designing and Validating a Comprehensive Questionnaire to Assess Online Interaction Learning Model

The Online Interaction Learning Model was founded on constructivist learning theory. It is an input-process-output model based on moderating variables, the inputs, which includes all of the characteristics of the courses, the instructors, EFL learners, and the technology. Due to the fact that the studies considering the pivotal role of the Online Interaction Learning Model are scarce in number, this study was conducted to validate a newly-designed questionnaire via exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Two hundred fifty-nine Iranian university and higher education institutes EFL learners were asked to participate. The newly-developed questionnaire consisted of 35 items measuring the five constructs of the Online Interaction Learning Model (Course materials, Instructor performance, Learning practices, Student-to-student interaction, and Access to technology). The results from EFA, CFA, and reliability analyses revealed that the new questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument measuring Online Interaction Learning Model. Moreover, there was a significant positive correlation between each component of the Online Interaction Learning Model and EFL learners’ GPA as well as between the total Online Interaction Learning Model and student academic achievement. Male and female EFL learners’ scores on the online interaction learning model were quite different from each other.

A Comparative Study of English and Math Teachers’ Perfectionism: Leadership and Empowerment

The present study aimed at investigating the relationship between three main characteristics of teachers; namely, perfectionism, leadership and empowerment, amongst Iranian English and math teachers. To do so, two groups of teachers were selected to participate in this study. One consisted of 177 math teachers and the other comprised 200 English teachers. All were teaching in Khorasan Razavi province, both in high schools and institutes. In order to collect the necessary data, three instruments (i.e. the Almost Perfect Scale–revised Questionnaire, School Participant Empowerment Questionnaire, and Leadership Practice Inventory) were employed. Having analyzed the data, the researchers found that the correlation among all the three variables were statistically significant for both math and English teachers. However, there was a statistically significant difference between math and English teachers regarding their leadership and empowerment, while no statistically significant difference was found between math and English teachers concerning their perfectionism.

اندازه گیری رشد توانش ترجمه ای با درنظرگرفتن الگوی تربیت مترجم تکلیف محور(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

هدف از انجام این تحقیق، اندازه گیری رشد توانش ترجمه ای با درنظرگرفتن الگوی تربیت مترجم تکلیف محور است. این مطالعه شامل دو مرحله می باشد: در مرحلة اول، پرسش نامة توانش ترجمه ساخته شد و اعتبار ساختاری آن با استفاده از تجزیه وتحلیل فاکتور عاملی، ثبات درونی و مدل سازی معادلات ساختاری سنجیده شد. در مرحلة دوم، دو نوع تمرین ترجمه به نام های تمارین متنی و تمارین فنی انتخاب گردیدند و به طور جداگانه، بر روی دانشجویان دو گروه آزمایش کار شدند. درابتدا و انتهای آزمایش، هر دو گروه پرسش نامة توانش ترجمه را دریافت کردند و از آن ها خواسته شد تا به آن پاسخ دهند. تجزیه و تحلیل آماری اطلاعات حاصل نشان داد بین میانگین نمرات پیش آزمون و پس آزمون در 05/0= α، اختلاف آماری معناداری وجود داشته است. همچنین، با درنظرگرفتن اجزای توانش ترجمه ای دو گروه تمارین متنی و مفهومی، افزایش چشمگیری در آزمون ثانویه نسبت به پیش آزمون در 05/0 = α وجود داشت. به همین-صورت، همة اجزای توانش ترجمه ای، در گروه تمارین فنی در پس آزمون نسبت به پیش آزمون پیشرفت آماری معناداری داشتند. درنهایت، همة اجزای توانش ترجمه ای به-صورت تک تک در هر دو گروه آزمایش بررسی شدند. نتایج نشان داد در گروه متنی، اجزای «توانش دوزبانگی» و «توانش ابزاری» رشد بیشتری داشته اند؛ درحالی که در گروه فنی، در چهار اجزای دیگر، در توانش ترجمه ای رشد بیشتری وجود داشته است.
