academic self-concept
حوزههای تخصصی:
Practical improvements in students’ overall success can be made if we take into account the contribution of learning environments to learners’ various attributes that would greatly affect their academic selves. This study aimed at scrutinizing the possible associations among Iranian EFL students’ perceived classroom climate, academic self-concept, learning self-regulation, and academic identity status. 420 university students were asked to fill out College and University Classroom Environment Inventory (CUCEI), Academic Self-Concept (ASC) Scale, Learning Self-Regulation Questionnaire (SRQ-L), and Academic Identity Status (AIS) Questionnaire. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and based on its several goodness-of-fit criteria, the proposed model of the possible interactions of the main variables was confirmed. Furthermore, classroom climate was correlated positively with subscales of learning self-regulation and academic self-concept and negatively with academic identity status. Besides significant correlations among study variables, the final model also revealed some intra-scales associations. Multiple regression analysis also indicated some significant predictions. The findings could provide classroom instructors and university syllabus designers with implications so that they can plan the EFL environments and class activities taking into consideration students’ various academic characteristics. This involves their status of self-concept, identity, and regulation to help them achieve highly recognized long-term academic objectives.

Wisdom has a positive and significant effect on academic vitality (P=0.001). Socio-economic status has no direct effect on self-concept (P=0.208). Socio-economic status has no direct effect on academic vitality (P=0.358). Self-concept has a positive and significant effect on academic vitality (P=0.001). Wisdom has an indirect and significant effect on academic vitality through the mediation of academic self-concept (P=0.001). Socio-economic status has no indirect effect on academic vitality in a positive and significant way with the mediation of academic self-concept (P=0.208) Conclusion: Wisdom in turn directly and indirectly through the mediation of self-concept affects the students' academic vitality.

Purpose: The purpose of this research was to compare the effectiveness of emotional intelligence training and self-compassion practices on mental well-being, academic vitality, and academic self-concept among female high school students in Hamedan.
Methodology: The research method was a semi-experimental three-group design (two experimental groups and one control group) with pre-tests and post-tests. The sample was selected using multi-stage cluster sampling from the population of female high school students in Hamedan in the academic year 2023-2024, with 60 individuals randomly chosen (20 in the first experimental group, 20 in the second experimental group, and 20 in the control group). Measurement tools included the Keyes and Magyar-Moe (2003) Mental Well-being Scale and the Liu and Wang (2005) Academic Self-concept Questionnaire. MANCOVA test and its assumptions were used to test the research hypotheses. ANOVA (one-way analysis of variance) with box plot and post-hoc tests like Tukey and Scheffé were employed for multiple comparisons in the post-test using SPSS version 23.
Findings: The results showed that both emotional intelligence training and self-compassion practices are effective in improving the mental well-being and academic self-concept of female high school students in Hamedan. Additionally, it was found that self-compassion training is more effective than emotional intelligence training in enhancing academic self-concept, but there is no significant difference in the effectiveness of emotional intelligence training and self-compassion practices on mental well-being.
Conclusion: Psychologists can help students gain more awareness of their emotions and learn how to deal with them, set meaningful and achievable goals, increase academic vitality and motivation through realistic goals aligned with personal interests, and strengthen their academic self-confidence. Students should be taught how to cope with educational stress and anxiety, find creative solutions, and learn to utilize available resources and supports.

This study aimed to investigate the predictors of academic self-concept in children with hearing impairments, focusing on the roles of emotion socialization and grit. Understanding these relationships can inform interventions to support the academic success and well-being of these children. The study employed a cross-sectional design with a sample of 271 children with hearing impairments, selected based on the Morgan and Krejcie table. Participants were assessed using the Self-Description Questionnaire I for academic self-concept, the Coping with Children's Negative Emotions Scale for emotion socialization, and the Grit Scale. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation to examine bivariate relationships and linear regression to evaluate the predictive power of emotion socialization and grit on academic self-concept, using SPSS-27. Descriptive statistics indicated moderately high levels of academic self-concept (M = 3.45, SD = 0.58), emotion socialization (M = 4.12, SD = 0.73), and grit (M = 3.89, SD = 0.65). Pearson correlation showed significant positive relationships between academic self-concept and both emotion socialization (r = 0.45, p < 0.001) and grit (r = 0.52, p < 0.001). The regression model was significant (F(2, 268) = 76.45, p < 0.001), explaining 36% of the variance in academic self-concept (R² = 0.36). Emotion socialization (B = 0.35, p < 0.001) and grit (B = 0.45, p < 0.001) were significant predictors of academic self-concept. The study found that both emotion socialization and grit are significant predictors of academic self-concept in children with hearing impairments. These findings suggest that interventions aimed at improving emotion socialization practices and fostering grit could enhance the academic self-concept of these children, supporting their academic success and overall well-being.
