The current research examines Stephen Greenblatt’s theories on the improvisation of power as well as tyranny in William Shakespeare’s second tetralogy to investigate the complex network of non-violent psychological domination of human being’s mind, by the manipulation of symbolic order through the stages of displacement and absorption. It examines how the Western psychic mobility and its embodiment in empathy and the improvisation of power affect the represented English society in the Medieval era and how the consequential power relationships impact on the ways of ruling the country. The improvisation of power deconstructs the vertical and hierarchical power relations and makes them more diagonal, horizontal or even upward. The represented Medieval English court is a dark labyrinth of conspiracy, intrigue, treason, and complicity. This duality roots in religious fundamentalism of Roman Catholic church. The tension between the two paradigms of court and church causes turbulence and chaos. The result is the absolute submission of the majority through the improvisation of power, which paves the ground for the Machiavellian minority to exert power and gratify their personal self-interest-driven plans, which are mostly tyrannical. Through the improvisation of power, the course of history could change.

واژگونگی نقش و هویت جنسی ناگزیر و نامفهوم مردانه در آثار منتخب تنسی ویلیامز(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

فردیت سوژه های مذکر در نمایشنامه های تنسی ویلیامز به شکلی آفریده و تعریف می شوند که بعضاً با فرضیه ساختار هویت جنسی جودیت باتلر هماهنگ هستند. در چشم انداز کلی، روند این مهم، بررسی جایگاه هویت جنسی مذکر است که به صورت ظاهر در شکل دادن و تعیین جایگاه هویت جنسی ماده در سیستم فرهنگی دگرجنس گرایانه مؤثر بوده و جایگاه والاتر را از آن خود می سازد. اما در نگاه خردتر هویت جنسی مردانه بعضاً در ساخت فاعلیت مذکر نیز از قاعده دوقطبی پیروی کرده و برای هویت مذکر ژیگولو و یا هم جنس گرا یا حتی پیروی فرهنگ دوجنسیتی اجباری، جایگاه پایین تری را درنظر می گیرد. هدف از نگارش این مقاله مشاهده و تحلیل نحوه شخصیت پردازی تنسی ویلیامز است که با نمایان ساختن نقش و هویت های جنسی مذکر متنوع، اعم از دگرجنس گرا، هم جنس گرا، و ژیگولو، به واکنش های متفاوت این افراد در رویارویی با استانداردهای ازپیش تعیین شده فرهنگ دوجنسیتی پرداخته و تنوع اجراگری آن ها را که اغلب به واژگونگی منجر می شود به نمایش می گذارد. هدف دیگر این پژوهش، تطابق یافته هایی که از خوانش و تحلیل نمایشنامه های ویلیامز به دست آمده، با فرضیه اجراگری جودیت باتلر است. در این مطالعه، نگارندگان مقاله حاضر، به این نتیجه گیری دست یافته اند که کاستی هایی در تئوری وجود دارند که شخصیت های مذکر نمایشنامه ها را به صورت کامل پوشش نمی دهند و با وجود اینکه ویلیامز سال های زیادی قبل از باتلر آثار خود را منتشر کرده، به صورت جامع و متنوع شخصیت های مذکری را پدید آورده که همه جوانب رویارویی با فرهنگ دگرجنس خواه را به تصویر می کشند. در این جستار نحوه بررسی به این صورت خواهد بود که مواردی از تئوری باتلر درخصوص اجراگری و اجراگری واژگون عنوان شده و با درنظر گرفتن شخصیت های مذکر نمایشنامه های تنسی ویلیامز، چگونگی کاربرد نظریه به صورت عملی تحلیل خواهد شد. از آنجایی که تنوع شخصیت های مذکر در نمایشنامه ها به همه ابعاد تئوری امکان اشراف و ظهور را می دهد، پژوهش حاضر بسیار با واقعیت جهان هستی مطابق بوده و از سوی دیگر، زندگی شخصی نویسنده به عنوان هم جنس گرایی که با قوانین و قطبی شدگی ماتریس قدرت جامعه و فرهنگ روبه رو بوده، بسیار به درک و شناخت کلی هژمونی فرهنگ دگرجنس گرا در ارتباط با فردیت های مذکر جامعه یاری خواهد رساند. در بررسی نمایشنامه های تنسی ویلیامز و شخصیت های مذکر آن ها، و استفاده از نظریه جودیت باتلر مبنی بر اجراگری و واژگونگی اجراگرایانه، دستاورد مهمی که حاصل می شود، نمایش نقص نظریه باتلر در توضیح نحوه برخورد فرهنگ دوجنسیتی در ارتباط با فردیت مذکر است. نظریه از این جهت با کمبود مواجه است که در مواردی که برای افراد مذکر هم جنس گرا یا دگرجنس گرا از سوی مردان و همچنین زنان جامعه نقش و هویت جنسی پایین تری تعریف می شود، هیچ گونه توضیح یا توجیهی ارائه نمی دهد. اجراگری هویت های جنسی مذکر و احیاناً واژگونگی اجراگرایانه آن ها در غالب بسیار متنوعی در آثار ویلیامز به نمایش درآمده اند که از سوی مردان جامعه و همچنین زنان جامعه که نقش غالب را انتخاب کرده و به عنوان نمایندگان ماتریس قدرت در ارتباط با اعضای مذکر روبه رو می شوند در جایگاه ثانویه قرار می گیرند.

The present study focuses on the strategic process of enlisting the readers’ empathetic responsiveness in Thomas Hardy’s major Wessex novels. The analytical perspective draws on Suzanna Keen’s theories in affective narratology; it intends to uncover the stylistic strategies of affective impressionism in the Wessex narratives. The methodological procedure is grounded in the qualitative appraisal of the emotive aspects of Hardy’s realistic representations through critical discourse analysis. The research approach is influenced by the recent mind theories in cognitive science, emphasizing emotional perception as the most significant determinant of the gestalt of interpretations. The semi-fictional world of Wessex capitalizes on an insight into the primacy of emotive sensibility over cognitive rationality. The authorial intentionality in the Wessex narratives aspires to propagate human compassion by resorting to the literary application of the empathy-altruism hypothesis. The melioristic agenda for edification via investment in the readers’ emotive capacities saturates the narratives’ impressionistic composition. The manipulation of the narrative consciousness foci in the major Wessex novels enables Hardy to maintain his readers’ empathetic identification with his characters’ predicaments in a philosophical context. Moreover, the tagged characterization of the protagonists establishes the intended impressions of their temperament and demands the corresponding empathetic responses from the readers.

Leslie Marmon Silko, an American Indian writer, is one of the pioneers of literary renaissance in Native American literature. Her works are focused on cultural identity, the Native people’s struggle to preserve their past and culture by means of storytelling. This article focuses on Silko’s fictional world as both fiction and history. Moreover, it deals with the cultural trauma ingrained in the Indigenous people’s collective memories, which have shaped Silko’s imagined geography in her works. Regarding the theoretical axis of discussions concerning history, historiography and emplotment of history, this article uses theories of Hayden White to explore the place of historiography in narrative. Furthermore, it applies the critical arguments concerning cultural trauma proposed by Jeffrey C. Alexander. The research proves that Silko and her characters are haunted not by the desire for history, or the past itself; but rather, they are haunted by the desire for the act of historical recollection and the process of remembering and surviving. Finally, this article shows that Silko, as a historical figure with certain literary-historiographical ambitions, reconstructs her cultural heritage and cultural identity through storytelling and fictionalizes history to give voice to her silenced land, past and history, and dismantle the dominant Euro-American historiography.
