Keys, Bridges, and Locked Doors: Multimodal Insights into Affordances for and Constraints to Linguistic Investment(مقاله علمی وزارت علوم)

This study explored the affordances and constraints shaping Iranian English learners’ linguistic investment through a multi-method approach, including interviews, digital ethnography, visual methodologies, and policy analysis. Findings showed that learners are motivated by economic opportunities, intercultural exchange, and social mobility, viewing English as a form of capital enabling access to global networks and professional advancement. However, ideological and pedagogical barriers such as state-promoted Arabic-centered policies, familial resistance, and inadequate resources create significant constraints. Learners navigate these constraints through covert digital practices and alternative strategies, highlighting the tension between individual aspirations and structural limitations. The study underscores the need for policy reforms that reconcile national identity with global linguistic demands and pedagogical approaches that prioritize communicative competence and digital literacy. Limitations include reliance on self-reported data, suggesting avenues for future research on longitudinal investment trajectories. This research contributes to broader discussions on language, power, and identity in contexts of ideological contestation.

The impact of personality traits on classroom management styles of secondary school English teachers in Bushehr

How to manage an English class is also affected by different factors such as personality traits. The present study is an attempt to explore the relationship between classroom management styles and personality traits in secondary school English teachers in Bushehr. It also examines the differences in teachers' classroom management styles in terms of to the gender. Thirty male and female English teachers in secondary schools formed the sample of the study. The subjects received two questionnaires of NEO –FFI personality traits questionnaire and Attitude and Beliefs on Classroom Control Inventory (ABCCI), a classroom management inventory. The findings revealed a significant relationship between classroom management styles and Neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness. Extraversion and openness showed a significantly positive relationship with people management. Also behavioral management and conscientiousness had a meaningful relation with instructional management. However, neuroticism had a negative relationship with instructional management. Gender cannot be regarded as an effective factor in classroom management style.

On the Evaluation of Fairclough’s Interpretation Stage through a Goodness Criterion: An Iranian Case(مقاله پژوهشی دانشگاه آزاد)

The present study was an evaluation attempt to investigate the practicality of interpretation procedures proposed by Fairclough (1989) in the critical analysis of Persian texts. The evaluation was implemented on the basis of a goodness criterion, analytical induction (AI) framework developed by Silverman (1993). In so doing, we went about the interpretation of the inaugural speech made by the president of Iran, Dr. Rohani to the United Nations General Assembly in New York in 2013. The interpretation was done according to the Fairclough’s interpretation model in light of AI theoretical framework. The outcome of the study supported the practicality of the overall interpretation model in the Iranian context. However, considering Iranian special sociolinguistic context, the study also put forward some suggestions with respect to the interpretation of local coherence and text structure in the lower section of the model as well as situational context and intertextual context in upper section.
