چکیده
هنر منعکس کننده دنیای اطراف ما است، اما آیا هنر به شکل گیری جامعه ای که در آن زندگی می کنیم نیز کمک می کند؟ جان مولینه، نویسنده ای مارکسیست، صاحب آثاری سترگ در طی چندین دهه و همچنین کسی که علاقه ای دیرپا به هنرهای تجسمی داشته، در این نوشتار بر اساس کتابی که در دست انتشار است، به این موضوع جذاب می پردازد.این متن نسخه ای بسیار فشرده از یک بحث طولانی تر است که در کتابِ در حال انتشار «دیالکتیک هنر» آورده خواهد شد هم کتاب و هم این مقاله با این اعتقاد نوشته شده اند که هنر تجسمی نه تنها برای اقلیتی که به هنر علاقه دارند، بلکه به طور عینی برای کل جامعه و توسعه آن اهمیت دارد.این موضوع که نقاشی ها یا مجسمه ها نیروی محرکه تغییرات اجتماعی عظیمی اند که اگر بشریت بخواهد آینده ای شایسته داشته باشد، به آنها نیازمند است، درست نیست. این نقش را مبارزات توده ای مردمی داشته و خواهند داشت. هنر به دلیل توانایی اش در بیان بصری آگاهی اجتماعی در یک دوره که باعث رشد شخصیت انسان و آگاهی جمعی ما از محیط طبیعی و اجتماعی می شود، اهمیت دارد.The Dialectics of Art

Both the book and this article are written in the belief that visual art matters, not only to the minority who are passionate about art, but objectively to society as a whole and its development.It is not that paintings or sculptures will be the prime movers in the immense social changes that will be necessary if humanity it is to have a decent future. That role has been and will be played by mass popular struggle. Art matters because of its ability to articulate in visual imagery the social consciousness of an age, in a way that aids the development of the human personality, and our collective awareness of our natural and social environment.
